CATL, GAC and JD.com unveil battery swappable Aion UT Super EV with 500 km range

A brand new electric compact vehicle has just hit the Chinese market, and it’s doing so with some serious backing. Say hello to the Aion UT Super, a compelling new EV born from a massive collaboration between GAC Group, CATL, and JD.com.

Marketed ambitiously as a “People’s Great Car,” this sleek electric hatchback is launching exclusively on the JD.com platform, marking a unique partnership in the automotive world.

One of the most talked-about aspects is the flexible pricing structure designed to make EV ownership more accessible:

– Full Purchase Price: Starting at just 89,900 yuan (approximately $12,600 USD).
– Battery Leasing Option: A groundbreaking option that lowers the entry price to 49,900 yuan (approximately $7,000 USD), plus a monthly battery rental fee of 399 yuan (about $56 USD).

Under the hood (or floor, rather), the Aion UT Super delivers a notable performance boost. It’s driven by an electric motor offering a maximum output of 100 kW (134 hp) and a peak torque of 145 Newton-meters. Equipped with a CATL lithium iron phosphate battery, the UT Super boasts an impressive CLTC range of 500 kilometres.

This is a major upgrade over its sibling, the 2025 Aion UT, which offered ranges of 330 km and 420 km—making the Super a much more viable option for longer trips.

The UT Super maintains the recognizable, pure electric compact hatchback structure of the 2025 Aion UT, but with its own stylish touches.

You can choose from two chic standard colors, Monet Purple and Champs-Élysées Beige, with options for personalized wraps.

It’s a comfortable compact size, measuring 4270mm long, with a roomy 2750mm wheelbase. It rides on standard 16-inch wheels, with an available 17-inch upgrade. Inside, you’ll find a modern design with a two-spoke steering wheel and a column-mounted gear selector. The front seats are perfect for a roadside nap, as they can recline a full 180 degrees.

A key feature is the integration of the Huawei Cloud vehicle system. This powerful setup supports AI voice large models and ensures seamless connectivity, no matter your device—whether you use HarmonyOS, Apple, or Android.

The Aion UT Super doesn’t skimp on features, packing in an impressive array of tech and convenience items standard:

– Infotainment: A large 14.6-inch central control screen and an 8.8-inch full LCD instrument cluster.
– Safety & Parking: 540-degree panoramic imaging system, reverse radar assist, and tire pressure monitoring.
– Convenience: Mobile phone Bluetooth key, keyless entry, automatic rain-sensing wipers, an electric tailgate, and cruise control.
