Volvo launches new electric bus in Mexico – the Volvo 7800 Electric

Volvo Buses has launched the new Volvo 7800 Electric in Mexico, the first electric articulated and bi-articulated bus manufactured in the country. The new electric bus is built on Volvo Buses’ global electromobility Volvo BZR platform and it will evolve the Bus Rapid Transit systems in Mexico, creating a more efficient and sustainable people transport system.

Volvo Buses has more than 25 years of experience in the Mexican market and is market leader in the Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) segment. With the new solution that the Volvo 7800 Electric will bring, Volvo Buses reaffirms its commitment to the development of cities in Mexico and meets the demands for an increase of the passenger capacity and at the same time reduce emissions.

“We are accelerating the transformation to sustainable and efficient transport solutions to further improve the public transport system in Mexican cities. This will not only have a positive effect for the operators and the passengers, but it will also improve the quality of life for citizens in cities,” says Rafael Kisel, President Volvo Group Mexico.

The Volvo 7800 Electric bi-articulated, with an impressive length of 25.6 meters, will be able to carry up to 300 passengers and the articulated model can carry up to 191 passengers. Both models have a charging capacity of 250 kWh. Volvo 7800 Electric also comes with a maintenance contract, and access to spare parts and timely service will secure a continuous operation.

Additionally, it will be equipped with Volvo Buses’ latest active safety systems, improving safety for vulnerable road users like pedestrians and cyclists. Volvo 7800 Electric will also be offered with a connectivity and circularity model that is unique for the Mexican market.

“With the launch of the new Volvo 7800 Electric here in Mexico, we are taking a solid step in our transition towards electromobility in the country, ensuring cleaner, safer, and more sustainable and reliable transport solutions for the BRT systems,” says Rafael Kisel.

The Volvo 7800 Electric is built on Volvo Buses’ global versatile BZR electromobility platform that can be adapted to different types of operations and customer needs. Both the bi-articulated and the articulated models will be manufactured in Volvo Buses plant in Mexico and the first buses are expected to be delivered during 2026.
