Milence opens its first charging hub in Italy

Milence, the joint venture between Daimler Truck, the TRATON GROUP, and the Volvo Group, has officially entered Italy, inaugurating its first major project in the country: the Charging Hub in Bagnolo San Vito, in the province of Mantua.

The hub is strategically located 40 km south of Verona, along the Bologna-Bolzano route, on the A22 Autostrada del Brennero and the Scandinavia-Mediterranean corridor, which play a key role in the European economy. In fact, the A22 is an essential motorway in Italy, connecting the Po Valley (a major industrial and agricultural region), the city of Modena, and the A1 Motorway with Austria. This area also serves as a significant gateway to Italy, linking the industrial heart of northern Italy to the harbours in southern Italy. Additionally, the hub is in a strategic area near the intersection with the Autostrada del Sole (A1), which connects major Italian cities such as Milan, Rome, and Naples.

The Charging Hub in Bagnolo San Vito marks the official expansion of Milence in Italy, providing essential access for hauliers operating along one of Europe’s key freight and logistics routes, supporting seamless cross-border transportation and enhancing connectivity across the region. The opening of the hub in Italy is the thirteenth to be operational, marking a further milestone in Milence’s mission to accelerate and support the transition to zero-emission, prioritising efficient, reliable access for heavy-duty electric vehicle operators across Europe.

Speaking about the opening, Milence CEO, Anja van Niersen said: “The opening of our first hub in Italy demonstrates our commitment to bring all industry stakeholders together, to create a platform that drives the next breakthrough in sustainable transport. This hub provides Italy with a solid foundation to meet the growing demand for zero-emission transport solutions. It marks a significant leap towards the future of road transport in Italy and across Europe as we move towards a sustainable and carbon neutral future.”

Milence’s hubs are equipped with some of the highest power outputs available today, offering 400 kW through CCS chargers, with plans underway to incorporate megawatt charging capabilities. This next-generation technology will enable charging speeds of up to 1,000 kW, allowing long-haul trucks to be fully charged within 30 to 45 minutes.

Beyond truck charging, the hub is designed to support drivers with thoughtfully planned amenities, providing a space to rest and recharge. This integrated approach aims to enhance the transition to sustainable transport by addressing the practical needs of both trucks and their drivers.

Milence ensures accessibility and transparency for all users with a robust payment system. Partnerships with leading e-Mobility Service Providers (eMSPs) enable drivers to pay using a variety of charging cards. Direct payment using a bank card is also available. The default charging tariff is €0.399 per kWh (excluding VAT).
