Volkswagen of America announced that it has door handle parts that will enable it to start selling ID.4 electric vehicles again and to replace the affected parts for current owners of ID.4 vehicles.
This means that dealers will be able to repair customer vehicles that were subject to the recall and will be able to sell ID.4 vehicles that were in existing stock, once repaired.
Volkswagen issued the recall of all 2021-2024 ID.4 models in September 2024 over a door handle-related issue. The recall included 99,064 vehicles in the U.S. plus 20,790 vehicles in Canada.
Assembly of the ID.4 in Chattanooga, TN, is set to resume in the coming weeks, with the aim of re-instating the ID.4 to its prior position as one of the best-selling electric vehicles in the U.S. and Canada.
Volkswagen said it will be making some highly competitive lease offers on ID.4s, making what was one of the most affordable electric compact SUVs even more attainable.
Volkswagen launched the 2024 ID.4 in February, while a June 2024 release outlines seven trim levels for the 2025 model year. Despite this, the consumer build & price tool currently only displays the 2024 model, with starting prices at $39,735.
Current configurator offers include a $500 bonus for military, veterans, and first responders, and a $500 bonus for college graduates. These offers expire on January 5, 2026, and March 5, 2025, respectively.
All ID.4 models come standard with a three-year Electrify America Pass+ membership, providing 500 kilowatt-hours of complimentary charging at DC fast charging and Level 2 (AC) stations.
