Volkswagen ID. Buzz Named 2025 North American Utility Vehicle of the Year

The Volkswagen ID. Buzz has been named the 2025 North American Utility Vehicle of the Year, Volkswagen of America announced on Friday at the 2025 Detroit Auto Show.

The ID. Buzz, Volkswagen’s modern reinterpretation of its iconic Microbus, took top honors in the Utility Vehicle category, showcasing its innovative design, cutting-edge technology, and all-electric powertrain.

“The ID. Buzz is a unique vehicle on the North American market, since it is the only electric people hauler on the market right now,” said Kjell Gruner, President and CEO, Volkswagen Group of America. “We are pleased that the experts on the jury appreciated its combination of style, space, and refinement, all packaged in a vehicle that has zero tailpipe emissions. And it does this while bringing a smile to the face of anyone who sees one on the street.

The 2025 North American Car, Truck and Utility Vehicle of the Year (NACTOY) Awards are widely regarded as one of the automotive industry’s most prestigious honors, recognizing vehicles that set benchmarks in innovation, design, safety, handling, driver satisfaction, user experience, and value. The ID. Buzz was evaluated by a jury of 50 distinguished automotive journalists from across the U.S. and Canada, standing out among three finalists in the Utility Vehicle category.

The ID. Buzz showcases retro-inspired styling, complete with a bold VW logo and vibrant two-tone exterior paint options that complement its spacious interior. Three available interior color themes—Moonlight, Dune, and Copper—add to its charm. Standard features include a 12.9-inch infotainment display, 30-color ambient lighting, IQ.DRIVE Level 2-ready driver assistance technology, and power sliding doors and tailgate. The rear-wheel-drive ID. Buzz Pro model has 282 horsepower and an EPA estimated range of 234 miles, while the 4Motion all-wheel-drive vehicle has 335 hp and an EPA estimated range of 231 miles.

The ID. Buzz Pro S Plus trim elevates the experience with features such as Easy Open for the sliding doors and tailgate, Harmon Kardon premium audio, a headup display, and AreaView technology. The base vehicle offers seating for seven with a second-row bench seat, while all-wheel-drive and Pro S models have captain’s chairs that give seating for six.

Pricing for the ID. Buzz starts at $59,995 MSRP, with a $1,550 destination charge for all models.
