Milence announces its first charging hub in the Spain

Milence, the joint venture between Daimler Truck, the TRATON GROUP, and Volvo Group, announces the development of its first charging hub in Spain, located in Zaragoza. With this first hub, Spain becomes Milence’s eighth market and strengthens its commitment to develop Europe’s largest public charging network for heavy-duty electric.

The charging hub is located in Zaragoza Logistics Platform (PlaZa), Spain’s most prominent logistics areas. This is a strategic location in the capital of the north-eastern Spanish region of Aragon, easily accessible from major transport routes such as the A2 motorway and Zaragoza airport. The region has a robust logistics infrastructure serving busy routes essential for logistics and trade.

Zaragoza is also an important logistics hub in Europe due to its connection to two major TEN-T corridors, the Mediterranean and the Atlantic. The Mediterranean corridor – from Algeciras in Spain to Slovenia and Hungary – improves connectivity across southern Europe and facilitates efficient transport from south-west to south-east Europe.

In addition, the Atlantic Corridor – from Portugal to the French border – opens a gateway to Northern Europe, providing access to major ports and trade routes and supporting freight transport along the corridor. Zaragoza’s connections make it an integral part of the distribution of goods throughout Spain and Europe.

Enthusiastic about the new hub, Anja van Niersen, CEO at Milence said: “I am delighted to see the development of our first charging hub in Spain at the Zaragoza Logistics Platform, a strategic location at the heart of the Spanish logistics industry. Zaragoza’s importance as a logistics hub makes it an ideal choice for our continued investment in Europe’s largest public charging network”.

Milence brings its latest charging solutions for electric heavy-duty vehicles to the Zaragoza hub. The development of the hub will be carried out in two phases:

– In phase one, the charging hub will be equipped with four high-performance Combined Charging System (CCS) chargers, powering up to four bays.
– The second phase will incorporate additional charging bays including Megawatt Charging System (MCS) chargers.

The first phase is expected to be operational in the first half of 2025. In addition to the latest charging technology, the hub will feature Milence’s signature arches and canopies. There will also be on-site amenities such as toilets and showers for an optimal rest and recharge experience.
