Electrify America Partners with BMW to Provide Two Years of 30-Minute Complimentary Charging Sessions for the New BMW i5. First-time BMW i5 owners can enjoy complimentary 30-minute fast-charging sessions for two years across Electrify America’s coast-to-coast network.

Electrify America and BMW of North America today announced an agreement to provide first-time owners of the new all-electric BMW i5 with two years of complimentary 30-minute charging sessions.

This agreement is the latest between Electrify America and BMW, expanding on the included charging already offered to first-time owners of the BMW i4, iX, and the i7.

“BMW is helping more drivers experience an EV lifestyle by providing range confidence through access to fast, convenient charging while on the road,” said Robert Barrosa, Vice President of Technology and CEO- elect (June 1) of Electrify America. “Working together to increase access to ultra-fast charging is helping to drive EV adoption, leading to a more sustainable transportation future we all deserve.”

BMW i5 owners will have two years from the date of purchase to use the complimentary 30-minute charging. To activate the charging benefit, owners can enroll through the My BMW app. In addition, drivers can use the app or in-vehicle navigation to locate nearby charging stations, verify charger availability, and navigate to the charging stations. Electrify America’s fast-charging network enables new i5 owners to charge with confidence at its 150kW and 350kW chargers, some of the fastest charging speeds available today.

The i5 is part of the new BMW 5 Series, which will launch worldwide in October 2023. The new 5 Series will feature the BMW Operating System 8.5 with the BMW Curved Display, innovative digital services and for the first time, an electric drivetrain in the form of the BMW i5. It will also be the first BMW electric vehicle (EV) to feature Plug&Charge payment technology. After a brief online registration, drivers can automatically pay for charging by simply plugging in their EV. The charger communicates with the vehicle to identify, authenticate, authorize and bill the customer’s registered account for the charging session. The entire process allows for a seamless charging experience for the customer.

“As we continue expanding our electric offerings, access to charging infrastructure is as important as having a comfortable yet dynamic ride,” said Sebastian Mackensen, President and CEO, BMW of North America. “We are grateful to Electrify America for working with us and sharing in our mission to help make the future of transportation more sustainable.”
