DS 9 gets more power and range with new E-TENSE 250 Trim

With an electrification strategy in place since the brand was created in 2014, DS Automobiles is continuing its energy transition with the arrival of a new plug-in hybrid set-up for DS 9.

DS 9 E-TENSE 250 introduces a 4-cylinder, 200 horsepower PureTech engine accompanied by an 80kW (110 horsepower) electric motor. A new 15.6kWh (total capacity) battery, with the same number of cells, enables you to drive up to 70 kilometres according to the WLTP urban cycle (EAER City used by the tax authorities) or 61 kilometres on the WLTP combined cycle with unchanged unladen mass. The 7.4kW onboard charger permits charging from 0 to 100% in 2hr 23.

CO2 emissions fall to just 26g/km with petrol consumption certified at 1.1 litre/100km on the WLTP combined cycle.

DS 9 E-TENSE 250’s maximum speed is electronically limited to 240km/h, with the ability to reach 135km/h using electric power alone.

For French companies, these figures enable them to:
– be exempt from the first component of company car tax,
– have a depreciation ceiling of 20,300 euros on the car,
– be able to deduct the cost of the battery (9,100 euros inc. taxes),
– be exempt from the “weight surcharge” which comes into force on 1st January 2022.

DS 9 E-TENSE 250 is offered at a price of 58,000 euros (in France) in the PERFORMANCE LINE + version and 60,900 euros (in France) in its RIVOLI + version.

DS 9 PERFORMANCE LINE + introduces an interior in Black Alcantara, symbolic of assertive dynamism and elegance. The bodywork is finished off with chrome DS PERFORMANCE LINE badges on the front doors, DS WINGS and a chrome boot strip. The Gloss Black grille is capped off with the DS PERFORMANCE LINE logo. The 19” Black MONACO alloy wheels are enhanced with a Carmine centre cap.

In the cockpit, Black Alcantara®/leatherette seats with Carmine and Gold stitching combine with the centre console and the dashboard that are also covered in Alcantara®, immersing the driver in a hushed environment. On the dashboard, the embossed aluminium DS PERFORMANCE LINE badge illustrates the unique savoir-faire of DS Automobiles. The crystal inserts on the control under the central screen emphasise refinement down to the smallest detail. The multi-function steering wheel is in perforated full grain leather with an airbag clad with leather and Carmine and Gold stitching.

Inspired by the Tuileries quarter, DS 9 RIVOLI + combines quality materials with diamond-shaped premium trim. Three different interiors are being offered: Basalt Black Leather made from grain leather or OPÉRA with, as options, two colours of Nappa leather, characterised by Rubis Red or Black watchstrap upholstery seats.

The elegance of OPÉRA is illustrated through the use of Nappa leather on the seats front and rear, the centre console, the door panels and completely covering the dashboard. The premium central rear arm rest and the adjustable Lounge head restraints complete the comfort offered by the rear seats.

The quality of the materials stimulates the senses with a steering wheel in full grain leather, the gear lever knob in smooth leather, the grab handles covered in leather, aluminium accents on the pedals and the centre console, the headlining, sun visor and rear shelf in Alcantara® with “pearl” stitching inspired by high fashion.

The legacy of research undertaken since the Brand’s launch, acoustic ambience is taken to a new level with a special treatment designed to suppress exterior noise. Laminated acoustic glass combines with a hard-bonded body which eliminates vibrations. Enjoyment is enhanced with a 515W FOCAL Electra® sound system, specially developed for DS 9 and featuring new stainless-steel tweeter grilles among the fourteen speakers perfectly positioned around the cockpit for an audio experience worthy of an auditorium.

DS 9 benefits from the latest technology that makes the other models in the DS range so outstanding. With DS ACTIVE SCAN SUSPENSION controlled damping, a camera at the top of the windscreen scans the road, while four attitude sensors and three accelerometers record every movement and transmit the information to a computer that can act on each of the wheels independently to improve safety, comfort and provide ride quality without equal. This 21st Century DS suspension combines the hushed comfort of a prestige saloon with the dynamics of a Grand Touring coupé.

With DS DRIVE ASSIST, DS 9 enables its driver to enjoy Level 2 semi-autonomous driving which lets them cover distances in the greatest comfort with improved levels of safety. Speed is controlled according to DS 9’s surroundings. The system uses sensors to position the car precisely in its lane dictated by the driver adjusting the steering. Usable up to 180km/h, DS DRIVE ASSIST controls speed and direction, under the driver’s supervision, in order to guarantee safety and peace of mind.

Controlling speed is done by adaptive cruise control that oversees driving in traffic jams: the car restarts automatically if it’s stopped for less than three seconds. If it’s stopped for longer, simply pressing a button or the accelerator pedal will restart DS 9.

The on-board DS DRIVE ASSIST camera recognises broken and continuous lines. While driving, it’s constantly analysing the images and interpreting situations. It enables the car to stay in its lane, even in the area of the lane that the driver wants. If the driver wishes to re-take control of the steering, taking a firm hold of the steering wheel will override the system. It is also interrupted if the indicators are used. The system can be activated from 30km/h.

For parking, DS PARK PILOT will detect a parking place by passing it at speeds up to 30km/h. The driver then indicates on their touchscreen that they want to park, parallel or into a bay. Then there’s just one thing to do: keep the Park button pressed and wait for the technology to get to work. Acceleration, braking and steering are automatically controlled. DS PARK PILOT can also exit a parking place.

On long journeys, poor visibility or lack of attention are often synonymous with danger. To make driving safer DS SAFETY brings together seven major functions: DS NIGHT VISION,

DS DRIVER ATTENTION MONITORING, DS ACTIVE LED VISION, Active Blind Spot Detection, Active Safety Brake, Extended Traffic Sign Recognition and Lane Keeping Assist.

DS NIGHT VISION is exceptional at reading the road in the dark. Its infrared camera in the front grille detects pedestrians, cyclists and animals on the carriageway up to 150 metres ahead. The driver gets a picture in infrared on their large digital instrument display and will see danger outlined in yellow, then in red depending on how serious they are. Alerted like this, they can react.

Through an infrared camera mounted on top of the steering column, and a camera at the top of the windscreen, DS DRIVER ATTENTION MONITORING continually watches the driver’s eyes for signs of fatigue (blinking), their face (where they’re looking) and head movements for distraction, as well as the trajectory of the car over lines in the road, particularly wandering or steering movements by the driver. It can detect any loss of attentiveness by an abnormality in one of these factors – blinking of the eyes or erratic movements that aren’t in a straight line – and will automatically sound an audible alert while a warning will appear on the central screen, day or night.

In addition to looking good, emphasised by modules that light up and rotate through 180° as a welcome, DS ACTIVE LED VISION adapts in width and range to driving conditions and the car’s speed. Multiple lighting modes activate automatically. Parking, Town Beam (width of the beam increases after three seconds of driving), Country Beam (focused ahead from 50km/h), Motorway Beam (range increased from 110km/h), Adverse Weather (activated when the windscreen wipers are on, the power of the modules increases and the intensity of the main headlamps is reduced) and High Beam (maximum lighting coupled with automatic switching of the sidelights). The “turning headlight” function completes this feature. By lighting the road better and further ahead or with a wider light beam, the driver – and their passengers – enjoy greater safety.
