Chinese electric vehicle maker BYD delivered 29 Yuan Pro EV electric cars (locally called S1 Pro EV) to Walmart Costa Rica. It is also an important step for Walmart to make its fleet all-electric.
According to BYD, this is the biggest New Energy Vehicle (EVs) fleet in the country. Walmart’s fleet is expected to expand next year with more BYD Yuan.
Richard Vargas, CAM Biformat Operations Director of Walmart, said, “Walmart aims to achieve zero emissions in all its operations globally by 2040, and the incorporation of these electric vehicles is a step forward achieving that commitment. 47.6% of our fleet of light vehicles will be electric for next year, and we want to motivate other organizations to make this change and fight together against climate change.”
In a related news, BYD has launched the Han EV model in Columbia, which will join the premium SUVs like the TANG and SONG Plus DM-i, as well as best-selling new energy passenger vehicles such as the YUAN EV and the e-Series.
BYD received orders for over 1,000 new energy passenger vehicles and will deliver them by the end of 2021. BYD’s new energy passenger vehicles are now sold in Colombian cities such as Bogota, Medellin, and Pereira.
So far, BYD has orders for more than 1,550 battery-electric buses in Colombia, comprising over 96.5% of the country’s electric bus market and 99% of the market in the capital city, Bogota.
