MINI Cooper S E Countryman ALL4 PHEV was best-seller in May in Italy

The Italian plug-in electric car market is up 53% Year-on-Year, having registered 359 units in May, with the YTD tally now at 1,671 units, up 31% YoY.

Last month, the Mini Countryman PHEV landed in Italy with an impressive 67 registrations, starting its career there as best-selling Model in May, ahead of the Mercedes GLC350e (33 units), and its relative BMW 225xe Active Tourer, that with only 29 registrations, had its worst performance of the year.

Year-to-date, the Nissan Leaf is still ahead, with 237 registrations, followed by the BMW 225xe Active Tourer (196 units) and the Mercedes GLC350e (165).

Looking at the manufacturers ranking, BMW is in the lead, with 37% share, followed by Nissan with 21% and Mercedes with 18%.

With Mini already with 6% share, the BMW Group is likely to have over 50% share in this market soon.

The PEV Light Commercial Vehicles (LCV) market is also on positive ground, up 28% this year to 249 units, with the Nissan e-NV200 van leading (138 registrations) the market, ahead of the Citroën Berlingo EV (48 units) and Peugeot Partner EV (27).

Italy is the largest market in Europe for LPG and NG, with natural gas passenger cars down 40% to 13,869 units, with the LCV (N1) category also down, by 24%, to 1,631 units.

Reversely, LPG cars (M1) and vans (N1) are growing, with the first category up 24% to 59,208 units, while the second category is up 56% to 1,197 units.
