All major automakers are posting August sales numbers for plug-in electric vehicles.

Nissan LEAF Sales of the all-electric Nissan LEAF totaled 1,066 units, down 23.5% compared to August of 2015 when Nissan sold 1,393 LEAF EV’s. In terms of year-to-date results in 2016, sales of the Nissan LEAF now stand at 7,922, which is down by 36% compared with 2015 when 12,383 were sold. Nissan introduced the 2016 all-electric LEAF with an available 30 kWh battery that provides an EPA-estimated range of 107 miles – a 27-percent increase over the previous 24 kWH battery. | |
Chevrolet Volt Chevrolet Volt sold 2,081 units last month, up 50.8 percent compared to August of 2015 when Chevy sold 1,380 Volts. Overall for the year, 14,295 Chevrolet Volt plug-ins have been sold, which is up by 71.9% compared to 2015 when 8,315 units were sold. Chevrolet Volt sales surpassed 100,000 units in the United States in late July. | |
Toyota Prius Plug-in Prius Plug-in Hybrid sold just 2 units last month. Previously in July, June, May, April, March and February, Toyota sold 4, 11, 4, 4, 7 and 6 Prius Plug-ins respectively. Last year, sales of the Prius Plug-in Hybrid were at 4,191. The next generation Prius Prime PHV will come in the second half of 2016 as a 2017 model car. | |
Ford C-Max Energi Ford C-MAX Energi sold 707 units in August. Previously in July, Ford sold 755 C-MAX Energi plug-ins. Overall for the year, 4,687 C-MAX Energi plug-in hybrids have been sold. | |
Ford Fusion Energi Ford Fusion Energi finished last month with 1,422 deliveries, after selling 1,341 units in July and 1700 in June. In terms of year-to-date results in 2016, sales of the Ford Fusion Energi now stand at 9,998. | |
Cadillac ELR GM sold 6 Cadillac ELRs last month. In terms of year-to-date, sales of the Cadillac ELR now stand at 517, which is down by 26.6% compared with 2015 when 704 were sold. General Motors has pulled the plug on the Cadillac ELR after years of dismal sales. Cadillac only managed to sell 1,354 units of the ELR in 2014, while only 1,024 were delivered during last year. | |
Porsche Panamera S-E Hybrid Porsche Panamera S E-Hybrids finished last month with 59 deliveries. Previously in July and June, Panamera S E-Hybrid sold 21 and 22 units respectively. Overall for the year, 236 Panamera S E-Hybrids have been sold. | |

Volvo XC90 T8 PHEV Volvo XC90 PHEV sold 176 units during the month, after selling 178 units in July and 166 units in June. Overall for the year, 1,360 XC90 PHEV SUVs have been sold. Mercedes-Benz GLE 550e Mercedes-Benz GLE 550e sold 24 units in its second month on the market. Previously in July and June, the GLE 550e sold 30 and 19 units respectively. Mitsubishi i Mitsubishi sold 25 i-MiEV electric car in July, after selling 20 units in July. Overal for the year, 65 iMiEVs have been sold. Last year, 115 i-MiEV EVs have been sold. The 2016 Mitsubishi i-MiEV will arrive at Mitsubishi dealers across the United States in late March 2015. With a starting MSRP of only $22,995, the 2016 i-MiEV is the most affordably-priced electric vehicle available in America today, and after factoring in the Federal tax credit of $7,500, the net starting MSRP is reduced to $15,495. | |
Toyota Mirai Toyota sold 371 Mirai fuel-cell electric sedans last month, after selling 52 units in July. Overall for the year, 641 Mirai FCVs have been sold. The Mirai is priced MSRP $57,500 plus an $835 destination fee. With combined state and federal incentives of $13,000 available to many customers, the purchase price could potentially fall to under $45,000. | |
