Landlord Lays On A Silent Night Ride Home For Regulars This Christmas

Santa may have his sleigh, but one pub landlord has found a more modern means of transport to help his regulars home after closing time this Christmas – an all-electric van.

Rafael Krasnodebski is using a seven-seater Nissan e-NV200 Combi to make sure customers get back safely following last orders. The aim is to prevent drink-driving over the festive period as well as promoting a more eco-friendly way of motoring.

The owner of Ye Olde Malthouse Inn, Tintagel, Cornwall, is a big fan of electric vehicles – he already uses an e-NV200 panel van he bought from Town and Country Nissan, in Marazanvose, for picking up his stock.

With the electric van costing an average of just 2p per mile to run, it means the extra late-night journeys won’t hit him in the pocket.

Rafael said: “I’m a huge believer in electric vehicles and love the e-NV200. That’s why I came up with this idea of driving customers home after closing time.  More people are out celebrating at this time of year so I wanted to make sure they have a good time without the worry of getting home afterwards.

“It’ll hardly cost me anything but will ensure visitors get back safe and sound over the Christmas and New Year period. It’s also a great opportunity to get others to experience electric motoring.”

Rafael uses his e-NV200 panel van to collect beer from local breweries as well as food supplies from wholesalers.

As well as the cheaper running costs, the e-NV200 can easily endure the tough terrain of Cornwall’s rural roads and is perfect for the 40-mile round trips.

In addition to low running costs and emissions, Rafael benefits from low maintenance costs – £1,200 lower than a conventional diesel van over four years.

And the unique driving experience of the e-NV200, means he feels less fatigue due to the lack of engine vibration in the cabin.

Rafael said: “It’s a pleasure to drive and saves me a fortune on running costs. It makes perfect business sense for me. I know many other local business owners are looking at it as well as they can see the benefits.”
