All major automakers are posting August sales numbers for plug-in electric vehicles.

Nissan LEAF Nissan LEAF had its best-ever month, with 2,420 August deliveries. Sales in new wave markets continue to grow, with Atlanta taking the crown as the No. 1 LEAF market in August. Since introducing the 2013 LEAF in March, deliveries are up 317 percent over the same period in the prior year. Chevrolet Volt The Chevrolet Volt sold 3,351 units in August, also its highest monthly total ever. In terms of year-to-date results in 2013, sales of the Chevrolet Volt now stand at 14,994 units. GM is offering $5,000 off the 2012, and $4,000 off the 2013, and a $269 lease for 36 months with $2,399 due at signing. Last month, GM announced that the new 2014 Chevrolet Volt will be $5,000 cheaper than the outgoing 2013 model. | |
Toyota Prius Plug-in Deliveries of the Toyota Prius Plug-In in August were 1791 units, up from 817 units in July, and 65 percent over a year’s ago number of 1,047 units. In terms of year-to-date results in 2013, sales of the Toyota Prius Plug-in now stand at 6,822 units. | |
Ford C-Max Energi Ford sold 621 C-MAX Energi plug-in hybrids in August. In terms of year-to-date results in 2013, sales of the C-MAX Energi now stand at 3,716 units. | |
Ford Fusion Energi Ford sold 600 Fusion Energi plug-in hybrids in August, with nearly 50 percent of units sold in California. In terms of year-to-date results in 2013, sales of the Ford Fusion Energi stand at 2,591 units. | |

Honda Fit EV Honda sold 66 Fit EVs in August, bringing the year’s total to 420. The company had its best-ever month in June with 208 Fit EVs sold. Honda announced in May that it has cut the monthly lease payment on its Fit EV from $389 to $259 and also is cutting the payment for those who already had leased the vehicle.e. | |

Smart Fortwo Electric Drive – No Sales Data to Report The smart fortwo electric drive went on sale on May-15 with starting price of $25,000, while the cabriolet is priced at $28,000 before federal credits. Last month, smart fortwo ED sold 58 units, which brings the total amount sold in the first 2.5 months to 173 units. | |
Fiat 500e – No Sales Data to Report Like Tesla, FIAT Brand North America does not report monthly sales. The 2013 Fiat 500e is priced at $32,500, which includes a $700 destination charge. However, eligible California residents may be able to purchase the 2013 Fiat 500e for as low as $20,500, after federal credits. | |
Chevrolet Spark EV GM sold 102 Chevrolet Spark EVs last month in California and Oregon only. Previously in July, GM sold 103 Spark EVs. MSRP for the 2014 Chevrolet Spark EV 1LT starts at $27,495 – as low as $19,995 net of the full federal tax credit which ranges from $0 to $7,500 – and includes $810 destination freight charge. |
