Infiniti has released a sketch of a future luxury electric vehicle that it plans to launch in the United States and other global markets in 2013.
Infiniti didn’t release details, but it said that the Infiniti EV will be “a stylish, high performance five-seat luxury vehicle with zero emissions technology.”
The Infiniti’s luxury electric vehicle will be based on the Nissan Leaf platform, but it will be more luxury oriented and will also deliver better performance.
“This future electric vehicle will play a major part of Infiniti’s ‘eco performance’ strategy that will see a greater focus on hybrid and EV technology,” Infiniti said in a statement.
The sketch was shown by Infiniti’s senior vice president, Mr Andy Palmer, during a ceremony held to mark the opening of the Infiniti Center Piccadilly in London.
Infiniti will unveil the 2012 M35 hybrid sedan in November at the 2010 Los Angeles Auto Show. The M35 hybrid is based on the M sedan and will deliver V-8 performance with 4-cylinder fuel economy from an estimated 302-horsepower, 3.5-liter V-6 engine and a 50 kilowatt electric motor with estimated horsepower of 67, Infiniti said.
Infiniti M35 hybrid will be available with a choice of base and GT trims, and first deliveries are expected to start next spring.
