The Chinese capital will have 500 electric taxis in service by the end of this year, according to the Beijing Municipal Commission of Development and Reform.
The city will install at least 120 electric car battery-charging stations, the Beijing Electric Power Company has announced.
The Midi electric taxis will be manufactured by Beiqi Foton Motor and will be able to run up to 200km (120 miles) after being fully charged.
Beiqi Foton Motor has announced that new-energy cars would account for 30 percent of the company’s total output in future, the Xinhua News Agency reported Sunday.
