BYD has officially launched its new flagship electric sedan, the Great Han (Da Han), in China, with a starting price of 235,900 yuan (approximately $35,200). The large luxury EV combines a claimed CLTC range of up to 1,008 km (626 miles), ultra-fast charging, and up to 764 hp, positioning it as a technology-packed alternative in the premium electric sedan segment.
Available in three variants, the Great Han features BYD’s second-generation Blade Battery, advanced driver-assistance technology, and a luxury-focused interior. Its headline feature is the ability to charge from 10% to 97% in just nine minutes using compatible high-power charging infrastructure.
The Great Han is the first fully electric D-segment flagship sedan in BYD’s Dynasty series, sitting above the existing Han sedan. It launched in China with three configurations, including two rear-wheel-drive models and a range-topping all-wheel-drive version.
The launch prices are lower than the previously announced presale prices, making the new flagship more competitive in China’s premium EV market.
– Entry-level RWD: 235,900 yuan (approximately $35,200)
– Mid-range RWD: 249,900 yuan (approximately $37,300)
– Flagship AWD: 275,900 yuan (approximately $41,200)
All three variants use a 102.3 kWh second-generation BYD Blade Battery. The rear-wheel-drive versions deliver a claimed CLTC range of up to 1,008 km (626 miles), while the dual-motor AWD model offers up to 880 km (547 miles).
These figures are based on China’s CLTC testing cycle, which is generally more optimistic than real-world driving conditions. Actual range will vary depending on speed, temperature, driving style, and other factors.
Up to 764 HP and 9-Minute Flash Charging
The BYD Great Han combines long-distance driving capability with performance figures that put it firmly in flagship territory.
The single-motor rear-wheel-drive models produce 370 kW (496 hp) and 500 Nm of torque. They can accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h (62 mph) in 4.9 seconds.
The dual-motor AWD variant adds a 200 kW front motor to the rear motor, bringing total output to 570 kW (764 hp) and peak torque to 910 Nm. BYD quotes a 0–100 km/h acceleration time of just 3.3 seconds for the range-topping version.
Charging is another major selling point. According to BYD, the Great Han can recharge from 10% to 70% in five minutes and from 10% to 97% in nine minutes when connected to compatible Flash Charging equipment.
BYD also claims that charging at temperatures as low as -30°C takes only around three minutes longer. These results depend on suitable charging infrastructure and operating conditions, and the nine-minute figure does not represent a complete charge from an empty battery.
Large Luxury Sedan With Advanced Technology
Measuring 5,256 mm long, 1,999 mm wide, and 1,510 mm tall, the Great Han has a 3,130 mm wheelbase. Its dimensions put it in the large luxury sedan category, with a footprint comparable to some established flagship models.
Aerodynamic efficiency is a key part of its design. The sedan features a flat front end, optimised air ducts, and a claimed drag coefficient of just 0.197. A 2.41-meter integrated daytime running light assembly, incorporating 249 LED elements, gives the front end a distinctive appearance.
Rear-wheel steering is standard, helping improve manoeuvrability despite the car’s considerable size. BYD quotes a minimum turning radius of 4.95 meters, while the chassis also benefits from the company’s DiSus-A dual-chamber air suspension system.
The suspension includes road-preview capabilities designed to improve ride comfort, along with a crab-walk mode that expands the car’s low-speed manoeuvring capabilities.
Premium Interior With 31-Speaker Audio and AR Head-Up Display
Inside, the Great Han combines a technology-focused cockpit with comfort features typically associated with more expensive luxury sedans.
The dashboard features a 40-inch augmented-reality head-up display, a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster, a 17.3-inch 3K central touchscreen, and a separate 12.3-inch passenger display.
The cabin also includes Nappa leather upholstery, white ash wood trim, and ambient lighting. A 31-speaker Devialet audio system with a 7.1.4-channel configuration is designed to provide an immersive listening experience.
Comfort equipment includes zero-gravity front seats with heating, ventilation, and 10-point massage functions. The rear seats also offer heating, ventilation, and massage, while electric leg rests, a folding screen, and a small table add to the rear-cabin experience.
Together with the dual-chamber air suspension and rear-wheel steering, these features underline BYD’s ambition to compete in the premium segment rather than focus solely on battery range and acceleration.
God’s Eye Driver Assistance Comes Standard
Every Great Han variant comes equipped with roof-mounted LiDAR and BYD’s God’s Eye intelligent driving assistance system, identified in the supplied specifications as God’s Eye 5.0.
The system supports advanced driver-assistance functions designed for highway and urban driving, including navigation-assisted driving and remote automated parking.
As with other driver-assistance systems, these features should not be treated as fully autonomous driving. Drivers remain responsible for monitoring the vehicle and complying with local regulations.
Could the BYD Great Han Challenge Premium EV Sedans?
The Great Han brings together several specifications that are becoming increasingly important in China’s competitive electric vehicle market: long claimed range, exceptionally fast charging, high output, advanced chassis technology, and a premium cabin.
Its starting price of approximately $35,200 is particularly notable for a sedan of this size with a 102.3 kWh battery and extensive standard equipment. However, the CLTC range figure should not be confused with the distance the car can cover under typical real-world conditions, and its charging performance depends on access to compatible high-power chargers.
The model also joins the Great Tang SUV as a flagship offering in BYD’s Dynasty lineup. The Great Tang recorded more than 10,000 monthly sales during its first three months on the market, demonstrating interest in the brand’s larger premium vehicles.
For now, the Great Han has launched in China, and an international release has not been confirmed. Its combination of range, charging speed, performance, and luxury equipment nevertheless offers a glimpse of how quickly the premium EV segment is evolving.
If BYD can deliver comparable charging performance and competitive pricing in additional markets, the Great Han could become an interesting contender against established luxury electric sedans. For buyers outside China, however, availability, final pricing, and local charging compatibility remain key unanswered questions.
