Leapmotor B03 Revealed: 242-Mile Range, 194 HP and Ultra-Fast Charging

Leapmotor has unveiled the all-new B03, an all-electric supermini designed to combine practical everyday usability with modern technology, flexible interior space and competitive electric performance. With a claimed WLTP range of up to 242 miles, a 194-hp electric motor and DC rapid charging from 10% to 80% in just 21 minutes, the new electric hatchback aims to make urban electric driving more convenient.

The B03 is the second model built on Leapmotor’s Compact Electric Platform, following the B03X crossover. It features the company’s latest Cell-to-Chassis 2.0 Plus architecture, a spacious cabin, advanced driver assistance systems and a digital-first interior.

For the UK market, Leapmotor plans to offer the B03 with a single, generously equipped trim level, simplifying the buying process by including a wide range of features as standard.

Modern Design for Urban Driving

The Leapmotor B03 measures 4,175 mm long, 1,790 mm wide and 1,550 mm tall, with a 2,605 mm wheelbase. These dimensions give the electric hatchback a compact footprint suited to crowded city streets while providing room for passengers and luggage.

Its exterior design combines clean lines, flowing surfaces and balanced proportions. A contrasting two-tone roof adds visual character, while slim, three-segment LED headlights and distinctive rear lights give the B03 a recognisable appearance.

Short overhangs and a turning circle of just 9.8 metres should also make the car easier to manoeuvre in tight urban environments, including narrow streets and parking spaces.

The styling aims to give the B03 a more expressive personality than a conventional small hatchback, without compromising its everyday practicality.

Spacious Interior With Dual Digital Displays

Despite its compact exterior, the Leapmotor B03 places considerable emphasis on interior space and comfort.

The dashboard centres on a 14.6-inch infotainment touchscreen paired with an 8.8-inch digital instrument display. The system runs Leapmotor’s LEAP OS 4.0 Plus software, which features a customisable interface, 3D graphics and support for displaying multiple applications.

The cabin also includes soft-touch materials and OEKO-TEX-certified elements, reflecting the brand’s focus on comfort and material selection. Decorative details inspired by Morse code appear across selected interior surfaces, seat materials and speaker grilles, adding a distinctive visual theme.

Small design details inspired by Leapmotor’s mascot, Leapy, are also integrated into parts of the cabin.

Ambient lighting provides several colour and animation settings, including effects that can respond to music. The system also works with selected vehicle alerts, such as parking sensor warnings and door-opening collision notifications.

An efficient heat pump is designed to warm the cabin while consuming less energy than a conventional electric resistance heater. This can help preserve driving range in cold weather, when cabin heating can increase energy consumption.

Flexible Seating and Up to 1,305 Litres of Cargo Space

One of the Leapmotor B03’s main selling points is its approach to interior packaging. The manufacturer has designed the cabin around everyday flexibility, with 30 storage compartments distributed throughout the interior.

The front passenger seat can fold flat to accommodate longer objects, while the driver’s seatback reclines by up to 149 degrees. The rear seat base, called LeapFlex, can be flipped upwards to create an additional 578 mm of vertical loading space for taller items.

The rear seatbacks also fold flat to produce a more practical cargo area.

Boot capacity stands at 405 litres with the rear seats in use, increasing to 1,305 litres when they are folded. A dual-level cargo floor offers different configurations depending on whether the priority is additional storage or maximum loading height.

With the rear seats folded and the floor in its upper position, the B03 can accommodate items up to 2.47 metres long. Lowering the floor creates additional underfloor storage, while a removable panel can be stored away to make full use of the luggage compartment.

There is also a separate 90-litre storage compartment, called the Leap Box, beneath the boot floor. Its durable, easy-clean design provides space for items that drivers may prefer to keep separate from the main luggage area.

These features could make the B03 particularly appealing to drivers who need a small electric car that can handle shopping, commuting, weekend trips and occasional bulky loads.

194 HP Electric Motor and 242-Mile Range

The Leapmotor B03 uses a front-mounted electric motor producing 145 kW, equivalent to 194 hp, and 200 Nm of torque. Power is delivered to the front wheels.

Leapmotor quotes a 0–62 mph acceleration time of 7.6 seconds and a maximum speed of 101 mph. These figures should provide sufficient performance for everyday urban driving, motorway journeys and overtaking.

The electric drive unit weighs just 60 kg, according to the manufacturer. Its highly integrated design is intended to reduce vehicle weight and improve overall efficiency, while an oil-cooling system helps regulate motor temperature during demanding driving.

Drivers can choose between Comfort, Standard and Sport driving modes. Comfort prioritises smooth acceleration and light steering, Standard aims to balance responsiveness with everyday usability, and Sport provides a more dynamic driving response.

The B03 also uses a lightweight suspension system, with MacPherson struts at the front and a torsion beam arrangement at the rear. Leapmotor says its suspension integration is designed to improve stability, steering precision and ride comfort while reducing complexity and weight.

A 53 kWh lithium iron phosphate (LFP) battery provides a claimed WLTP range of up to 242 miles. Actual range will depend on driving speed, weather, road conditions, passenger load and the use of climate control.

For drivers primarily travelling around town, the combination of a compact body, front-wheel drive and a claimed range of more than 200 miles could make the B03 a practical alternative to larger electric crossovers.

Rapid Charging in Just 21 Minutes

Charging performance is another important part of the Leapmotor B03 package.

The 53 kWh battery supports DC rapid charging at up to 133 kW. Under the manufacturer’s stated conditions, charging from 10% to 80% takes approximately 21 minutes. A 30–80% charge can take around 16 minutes.

For home charging, the B03 supports 7.4 kW AC charging, with a claimed charging time of approximately seven hours and 15 minutes from empty to full.

These figures make overnight home charging a practical option for many owners, while the rapid-charging capability should help reduce waiting times during longer trips. Actual charging times will vary depending on battery temperature, charger output and other conditions.

The B03 also supports vehicle-to-load (V2L) functionality through a 230-volt output. This feature allows compatible external electrical equipment to draw power from the vehicle’s battery, adding versatility for outdoor activities and other situations where a conventional power outlet may not be available.

Cell-to-Chassis Technology Improves Packaging

The B03 uses Leapmotor’s Cell-to-Chassis 2.0 Plus architecture, which integrates the battery into the vehicle’s structure rather than treating it as a separate component.

This approach is designed to improve packaging efficiency, helping create more usable cabin space without increasing the car’s exterior dimensions. The manufacturer also says the integrated structure improves torsional rigidity, which can benefit stability, handling and impact protection.

The architecture is paired with the company’s LEAP3.5 technology platform, which integrates hardware and software across the vehicle.

For a small electric hatchback, these engineering choices are particularly relevant. Efficient packaging can make the difference between a compact car that feels cramped and one that offers enough room for passengers and everyday luggage.

21 Driver Assistance Systems and Advanced Safety Technology

Leapmotor says the B03 comes with 21 driver assistance systems as standard, supporting Level 2 semi-autonomous driving functions. The package uses a combination of 14 sensors and cameras to monitor the vehicle’s surroundings.

Among the available features are adaptive cruise control, lane centring control, lane keeping assist, front collision warning and rear collision warning. The car also includes intelligent speed assistance, driver attention monitoring and front vehicle departure alerts.

Rear cross-traffic braking is designed to detect approaching vehicles when reversing and apply the brakes if necessary. A door-opening warning system monitors for approaching traffic, cyclists and pedestrians to help reduce the risk of opening a door into their path.

The B03 also introduces Leapmotor Integrated Motion Control (LMC), a chassis-control system intended to help maintain stability in challenging conditions. According to the manufacturer, it can respond to detected grip loss within 200 milliseconds and is designed to help the vehicle maintain its trajectory during emergency manoeuvres.

Passive safety equipment includes seven airbags, including a centre airbag, along with advanced seatbelt systems and automatic door unlocking following a collision.

As with other Level 2 driver assistance systems, these features support the driver rather than replace the need for continuous attention and control.

Digital Connectivity and Keyless Access

The B03 is designed to integrate vehicle access, infotainment and driving information into a connected digital experience.

The Leapmotor smartphone app and Bluetooth connectivity support automatic unlocking as the driver approaches and locking when moving away. A new physical key also provides keyless entry and starting, replacing the NFC card used by the brand on some of its other models.

Inside, the LEAP OS 4.0 Plus infotainment system brings navigation-related information, vehicle settings and compatible applications together through the central touchscreen.

The overall approach is intended to make frequently used functions easier to access while giving drivers a modern digital interface.

Can the Leapmotor B03 Challenge Europe’s Small Electric Cars?

The Leapmotor B03 enters a competitive segment where buyers increasingly expect more than a low purchase price and a compact body. Range, charging speed, interior flexibility, safety technology and standard equipment are all becoming important factors in choosing an electric supermini.

On paper, the B03 offers a compelling combination. Its claimed 242-mile WLTP range, 194 hp motor and 133 kW rapid charging capability give it specifications that could appeal to drivers who want a small EV without sacrificing performance or longer-distance usability.

Its flexible seating and 405-litre boot also distinguish it from the traditional idea of a small city car. The ability to expand cargo capacity to 1,305 litres could be especially useful for households looking for one vehicle to cover a wide variety of everyday needs.

However, the final verdict will depend on factors that remain important to buyers, including UK pricing, real-world range, ride comfort, efficiency in cold weather, warranty coverage and the availability of the charging and connectivity features in the production-specification model.

Leapmotor’s proposed single-trim approach for the UK could simplify the buying decision if the equipment level and pricing prove competitive.

The B03 therefore looks like a promising new entrant in the compact EV market. If Leapmotor can combine its extensive standard equipment with an attractive price, the electric hatchback could become an interesting option for buyers seeking a practical, technology-focused alternative to larger and more expensive electric cars.
