Opel is expanding its performance-inspired GSE lineup with the new Opel Astra GSE Line, bringing a sharper design and sportier character to the popular compact hatchback without restricting buyers to a single powertrain.
The new Astra GSE Line will make its public debut at the Paris Motor Show, where Opel will showcase the model alongside the new all-electric Mokka GSE and Corsa GSE. The new trim is scheduled to replace the current GS specification from spring 2027.
Unlike the fully electric Mokka GSE and Corsa GSE, the Astra GSE Line will give customers a choice of powertrains. It will be available with battery-electric, plug-in hybrid, hybrid and internal-combustion powertrains, allowing buyers to combine the GSE-inspired styling with the propulsion system that best fits their needs.
Opel Astra Gets a More Aggressive GSE Look
The Astra GSE Line builds on the equipment offered with the existing GS trim but adds a more distinctive and dynamic appearance.
At the front, the latest Astra features refined styling around the Opel Vizor, while the inserts below the Vizor receive a dedicated GSE Line color treatment. A “GSE LINE” badge on the bumper further separates the new trim from conventional Astra models.
The sporty look is completed by diamond-cut alloy wheels, offered as standard in 17-inch form with 18-inch wheels available as an option.
Inside, Opel has carried the GSE theme through the cabin with a series of subtle but recognizable details. Bright yellow stitching appears on the seats, steering wheel, door inserts and center armrest, while aluminum sports pedals add another performance-oriented touch.
Optional sports seats with integrated headrests will also be available, providing additional support. The seats can be specified on the Astra, Astra Hybrid and Astra Plug-in Hybrid.
GSE Design Without Giving Up Powertrain Choice
The Astra GSE Line represents a broader expansion of Opel’s GSE strategy. While the Mokka GSE and Corsa GSE focus on delivering high-performance electric driving, the Astra takes a more flexible approach by offering the distinctive GSE treatment across multiple propulsion technologies.
That means customers will not have to choose an electric vehicle to get the GSE-inspired exterior and interior design. Depending on the market and configuration, the Astra GSE Line will accommodate everything from conventional combustion engines to electrified powertrains.
The approach also gives Opel a way to extend the GSE identity across a larger part of its lineup while the company’s transition toward electrification continues.
More Powerful Astra GSE Variant Coming in 2027
Opel is also preparing something more substantial for the Astra GSE Line.
Following the trim’s official launch in spring 2027, Opel says a special variant producing 206 kW (280 hp) will arrive later in the year. The automaker has not yet revealed all of the details surrounding this version, but additional GSE Line models are also planned.
More information is expected to be announced during the Paris Motor Show.
The expansion comes as Opel places greater emphasis on the GSE name, which stands for Grand Sport Electric. The brand is using the designation across both road cars and motorsport, including the Mokka GSE Rally competing in the ADAC Opel GSE Rally Cup and the upcoming Opel GSE 27FE Formula E racing car.
With the Astra GSE Line, Opel is effectively bringing that performance-inspired identity to a wider audience while keeping the model practical enough for everyday driving.
The Opel Astra GSE Line will debut in Paris before going on sale from spring 2027, with a 280-hp variant and additional GSE models set to follow later.
