The Hyundai KONA Electric has become even more affordable for UK buyers after qualifying for the full £3,750 Electric Car Grant (ECG) under the government’s latest incentive scheme.
Previously eligible for a £1,500 Band 2 grant, the popular electric SUV has now been upgraded to Band 1, giving customers an additional £2,250 discount. The change follows a successful assessment of the vehicle’s environmental credentials, including its supply chain and manufacturing process.
The UK government’s Electric Car Grant, administered by the Office for Zero Emission Vehicles (OZEV), provides an instant point-of-sale discount on qualifying new electric vehicles. Band 1 represents the highest level of support available, rewarding manufacturers that meet stricter sustainability requirements across production and sourcing.
With the revised grant now in place, the Hyundai KONA Electric starts from £31,250, down from its original list price of £35,000.
The updated incentive significantly improves the value proposition for one of Europe’s most established electric SUVs, making it an even stronger rival to competitors in the compact EV segment.
In addition to the enhanced government grant, Hyundai Motor UK continues to offer 0% APR finance on the KONA Electric, providing another incentive for customers considering the switch to electric mobility.
Ashley Andrew, President of Hyundai Motor UK, said the KONA Electric has long delivered an attractive combination of driving range, practicality and affordability. He added that securing the full £3,750 grant makes the model even more accessible and marks the beginning of Hyundai’s efforts to bring additional EVs into the scheme during the coming months.
The second-generation Hyundai KONA Electric is available with two battery configurations:
– 48.4kWh battery producing 156 PS for everyday driving.
– 65.4kWh battery producing 218 PS with a WLTP driving range of up to 319 miles.
The combination of competitive range, modern technology and SUV practicality has helped the KONA Electric remain one of Hyundai’s most successful EVs.
Since its European launch in 2017, the Hyundai KONA Electric has surpassed 100,000 sales across the continent, establishing itself as one of the region’s best-selling electric SUVs.
With the newly approved £3,750 Electric Car Grant, lower effective pricing and ongoing finance offers, Hyundai is strengthening the KONA Electric’s position as an attractive option for buyers looking for a practical, long-range electric SUV in the UK.
