Toyota Motor Europe (TME) posted another strong performance in the first half of 2026, highlighting the company’s accelerating transition toward electrified mobility. Battery electric vehicle (BEV) sales more than doubled compared with the same period last year, while electrified models reached their highest-ever share of total sales across the region.
Between January and June 2026, Toyota Motor Europe delivered 633,617 vehicles, with electrified models accounting for 87% of total sales—a record for the company and a nine-percentage-point increase year-over-year. Battery electric vehicles represented 11% of all vehicle sales, reflecting growing customer demand for Toyota’s expanding zero-emission lineup.
Toyota Brand Maintains Strong Position in Europe
Toyota sold 592,463 passenger vehicles during the first six months of 2026, retaining its position as Europe’s second best-selling passenger car brand.
The Toyota Yaris Cross remained the brand’s top-selling model, accounting for 18% of Toyota’s total sales. Other key contributors included the Yaris family, Aygo X, Corolla range, Toyota C-HR, and the all-electric Toyota bZ4X.
Toyota’s electrification strategy continued to gain momentum, with 86% of all Toyota sales now coming from electrified vehicles—up 10 percentage points compared with the first half of 2025.
The company’s battery electric lineup recorded particularly impressive growth. BEV sales climbed 125% year-over-year to 62,412 units, driven by increasing demand for several recently launched models, including:
– Toyota bZ4X
– Toyota C-HR+
– Toyota Urban Cruiser
– Toyota bZ4X Touring
The rapid expansion of Toyota’s electric vehicle portfolio is helping the automaker strengthen its position in Europe’s increasingly competitive EV market.
Toyota Professional Expands Electric Commercial Vehicle Range
Toyota Professional delivered 76,788 Hilux and Proace family vehicles during the first half of the year while continuing to broaden its electrified commercial vehicle lineup.
Sales of the all-electric Proace increased by 37%, while the electric Proace City recorded an even stronger 47% year-over-year increase.
The introduction of the battery-electric Proace Max and the new Hilux BEV further expanded Toyota’s commercial EV offering, providing businesses with more zero-emission transport options across multiple vehicle segments.
Lexus Continues to Lead Electrification
Lexus also delivered a strong first-half performance, recording 41,154 vehicle sales across Europe.
Electrified vehicles accounted for an impressive 96% of total Lexus sales, reinforcing the premium brand’s long-standing focus on hybrid, plug-in hybrid, and battery electric technology.
The compact Lexus LBX remained the brand’s best-selling model with 13,236 units sold during the first six months of 2026.
Meanwhile, demand for Lexus’ electrified models continued to rise:
– Lexus RZ battery electric SUV sales increased by 43%.
– Lexus RX Plug-in Hybrid sales grew by 25% compared with the same period last year.
Toyota’s Electrification Strategy Continues to Gain Momentum
The first-half results demonstrate Toyota Motor Europe’s continued progress toward electrification as consumer demand for hybrid, plug-in hybrid, and battery electric vehicles continues to grow across the continent.
With electrified vehicles now representing nearly nine out of every ten vehicles sold and battery electric sales more than doubling year-over-year, Toyota and Lexus are strengthening their positions in Europe’s rapidly evolving electric vehicle market. The continued rollout of new passenger and commercial EVs is expected to support further growth during the second half of 2026.
