The Volkswagen Group has reached a major milestone in its electrification journey, delivering four million all-electric vehicles worldwide.
The achievement highlights the company’s rapid shift toward electric mobility and reinforces its position among the top five global EV manufacturers. In Europe, Volkswagen remains the clear battery-electric vehicle market leader, with a market share of about 27 percent.
A Decade of Electric Growth
Volkswagen’s electric journey began in 2013 with the launch of the Volkswagen e-up!, followed by the Volkswagen e-Golf in 2014.
The real acceleration came in 2019 with the introduction of the MEB (Modular Electric Drive Matrix) platform, designed specifically for electric vehicles. Since then, the architecture has powered around three million vehicles, making it the backbone of Volkswagen’s EV lineup.
According to Oliver Blume, CEO of Volkswagen Group, the milestone demonstrates how quickly demand for electric vehicles is growing.
Notably, while it took nearly ten years to deliver the first million EVs, the company delivered its fourth million in just one year, highlighting the rapid adoption of electric mobility.
One of the Broadest EV Portfolios in the Industry
Over the past two years, Volkswagen Group has launched around 60 new models, with roughly one-third fully electric.
Today, the group offers more than 30 all-electric passenger vehicles, covering nearly every segment—from compact hatchbacks to premium SUVs and luxury performance models.
Some of the most popular models include:
The group is also expanding electric mobility into commercial vehicles through brands within TRATON Group, including Scania and MAN Truck & Bus.
More Electric Models Coming in 2026
Volkswagen plans to launch more than 20 new models this year, around half of them fully electric.
Among the most anticipated projects is the Electric Urban Car Family, a lineup of affordable entry-level EVs designed primarily for European customers.
This move aims to make electric mobility more accessible while helping Volkswagen strengthen its position in the fast-growing entry-level EV segment.
