The Bluecar EV, jointly developed by the Bollore Group and Pininfarina design studio, could be on the market by the fall of this year, Reuters reported.
The car will be available as soon as this autumn, depending on the results of crash tests.
Bollore has built two lithium ion battery plants in France with a combined capacity of 30,000 30 kilowatt-hour battery packs. Bollore will supply the packs for cars to be assembled in Italy by Pininfarina.
Pininfarina CEO Silvio Angori expects to ship 2,000 Bluecar EVs by the end of next year.
The Pininfarina Bluecar was unveiled last year in Geneva. The 410 V BatScap battery pack has a capacity of 30 kWh, and peak power output of 45 kW. The cars are aimed at rental fleets and will go 250 km (155miles) without refueling.
Bollore is throwing its weight behind lithium-metal-polymer batteries, similar to one used in Hyundai and Kia LPI hybrids.
