NewMotion expands its roaming network to over 150,000 charge points

NewMotion, leading European smart charging solutions provider, recently announced the connection of 155,000 charge points in its European roaming network. Together with over 200 roaming partners, NewMotion offers electric vehicle drivers across 35 countries in Europe seamless access to NewMotion’s extensive network of public charge points.

NewMotion’s recent EV Drivers Survey 2020, the largest annual survey among EV drivers in Europe, showed that almost half (45 percent) of EV drivers worry about a lack of available charge points in the future. In addition to this, half (46 percent) of the surveyed drivers also mention that an increase in the availability of charge points would significantly improve their charging experience.

The expanded charging infrastructure covering 155,000 charge points will provide EV drivers with the ease of charging their EV anywhere, making e-mobility more accessible. In addition, NewMotion offers simplicity to their drivers; one charge card, one app, and one monthly invoice to cover all their charging sessions – which includes specific international VAT.

“We are excited to have reached this incredible milestone of connecting 155,000 charge points in our European roaming network. In order to achieve this, we have been successfully working together with over 200 roaming partners, enabling a seamless charging experience for EV drivers across Europe”, says Melanie Lane, CEO of NewMotion. “As more people make the transition to e-mobility we are committed to ensuring our customers have access to the right infrastructure, services and connectivity when and where they need it. Adding the 155,000th charge point to the roaming network just one year after we announced the 100,000th connection, once more shows we’re scaling up, just like the demand for EV driving. We will keep this pace, paving the way to a smarter, cleaner energy future.”

The availability of public charging infrastructure is a key consideration for drivers when making the switch to driving electric. Roaming, or interoperability, is the creation of an open network where drivers access the charging services of all operators in the network with just a single charge card. One card to charge at any charge point is (very) important for 41% of the respondents from the NewMotion EV Drivers Survey 2020. At the same time, the European EV driver still drives around with 2,5 charge cards on average. In effect, roaming partnerships help make EV driving and charging more practical and easily accessible for drivers.
