NEVS Partners with Hewlett Packard Enterprise to Accelerate Electric Car Production

Hewlett Packard Enterprise announced that its Enterprise Services business will help National Electric Vehicle Sweden (NEVS) accelerate the setup of their global electric vehicle production.

As part of the project, HPE will create a global manufacturing IT platform for NEVS that will operate across plants in Sweden and China.

NEVS, a Swedish holding company, was founded in 2012 and acquired the main assets of the former Saab Automobile company. NEVS’ vision is to provide a global portfolio of mobility solutions and sustainable city offerings and fully electric premium cars.

To support production, HPE will deploy proprietary and proven solution templates, based on the company’s experience establishing car production plants around the globe. HPE will design, build and operate an integrated end-to-end solution for NEVS’ existing manufacturing plant in Trollhättan, Sweden and and new plant in Tianjin, China. The solution spans from IT infrastructure to business processes and is based on SAP HANA in-memory computing and proven SAP automotive solutions, running on HPE technology.

HPE’s solution will replace the majority of NEVS’ existing manufacturing application landscape, creating a globally standardized and integrated manufacturing IT platform. This new environment will support a high-volume and highly flexible production capability, which will provide NEVS with the flexibility to adapt their operation to changing market conditions. Prepared for Industrial Internet concepts, the new platform will also give NEVS full control and planning ability of the entire value chain from incoming order to final delivery of a vehicle.

Bloomberg New Energy Finance forecasts that sales of electric vehicles will hit 41 million by 2040 — almost 90 times the equivalent figure for 2015. NEVS will begin production of its first electric vehicle in 2017.

“We are entering a highly competitive and disruptive market, so we need a partner who can both help us accelerate the setup of our electric vehicle production and give us the agility we need to quickly adapt,” said Mattias Bergman, President, NEVS. “Hewlett Packard Enterprise had the best-engineered solutions to enable us achieve these goals, and they convinced us with their technology leadership, collaborative approach and proven track record in the automotive industry.”

“NEVS is one of the most exciting undertakings in the industry, leading a proud heritage of traditional car manufacturing directly to the new world of connected mobility — and we are proud to be part of that journey,” said Jan Zadak, Senior Vice President and General Manager, Enterprise Services EMEA, Hewlett Packard Enterprise. “Working closely with NEVS, HPE will lay the foundation for a production environment which accelerates the time it takes to go from idea to value.”
