Opel has lowered the starting price of the Astra Electric in Germany to €36,490 by introducing a new entry-level trim called Astra Start. The new version cuts the electric hatchback’s previous entry price by €1,900, making the German-built compact EV more accessible while retaining its 115 kW (156 hp) electric motor and 55 kWh battery.
The new Astra Start trim is part of Opel’s expanded lineup for the latest model year. It is designed to offer a more affordable entry point across the Astra range, including hybrid, diesel and all-electric versions.
The next equipment level, Astra Edition, starts at €38,490 with the electric powertrain, leaving a €2,000 gap between the two versions.
Opel Astra Electric Start: What Changes?
The new Astra Electric Start retains the core electric powertrain of the existing model. Its electric motor produces 115 kW (156 hp) and 270 Nm of torque, while the 55 kWh battery supports 11 kW AC charging and DC fast charging at up to 100 kW.
However, Opel has reduced the standard equipment to achieve the lower starting price. The Astra Start no longer includes a heat pump, which can help improve cabin-heating efficiency and preserve driving range in colder weather.
The entry-level version also omits the 180-degree rear-view camera and keyless entry. Keyless Start remains available, according to Opel’s equipment announcement.
Despite these omissions, the Astra Electric Start retains several important comfort and convenience features as standard.
Standard Equipment Still Includes Dual 10-Inch Displays
The Astra Start comes with six-way adjustable Intelli-Seats, automatic climate control and front and rear parking sensors. The cabin also features two 10-inch displays: a customizable driver information screen and a color touchscreen for the infotainment system.
These features help maintain the Astra’s everyday usability despite its lower price. Opel is also introducing a new Denim Blue metallic paint finish for the entry-level trim, giving buyers another exterior color option.
Customers looking for additional comfort can choose the optional Comfort Package Start for €500. The package includes Solar Protect heat-insulating glazing, an auto-dimming interior rear-view mirror and a center armrest. On the Astra Sports Tourer estate, it also adds roof rails.
Opel Astra Start Prices in Germany
The new entry-level trim reduces prices across the Astra lineup, although the savings vary depending on the powertrain and body style.
– Opel Astra Hybrid: Starting at €31,890, with a 107 kW (145 hp) system output and a six-speed electrified dual-clutch transmission.
– Opel Astra Sports Tourer: Starting at €33,390 for the entry-level estate, depending on the selected powertrain.
– Opel Astra Electric: Starting at €36,490, with a 115 kW (156 hp) electric motor and a 55 kWh battery.
– Opel Astra Electric Edition: Starting at €38,490.
All prices are German recommended retail prices, including VAT. The new Astra Start trim lowers the entry price of the electric version by €1,900, while the hybrid and diesel variants also benefit from lower starting prices.
The diesel version is available with a 96 kW (130 hp) engine and an eight-speed automatic transmission.
A More Affordable Electric Astra, With a Trade-Off
The new Astra Electric Start gives buyers a less expensive route into Opel’s electric compact car without changing its principal powertrain specifications. The 55 kWh battery, 11 kW AC charging and DC charging at up to 100 kW remain unchanged.
The main consideration is the missing heat pump. Because cabin heating can consume a meaningful amount of energy in cold weather, buyers who regularly drive in low temperatures may want to compare the entry-level model with the better-equipped Astra Electric Edition before making a decision.
The price difference between the two electric trims is €2,000. Buyers will need to weigh that saving against the additional equipment available with the higher trim, particularly if a heat pump and rear-view camera are priorities.
Opel Expands Its Start Trim Strategy
The Astra Start is part of a broader effort by Opel to introduce more affordable entry-level versions across its model range. The manufacturer has also introduced the Start equipment line for models such as the Frontera and Combo.
The strategy aims to improve value for money by lowering entry prices while allowing higher trim levels to offer more clearly differentiated equipment.
For the Astra Electric, the result is a lower starting price of €36,490 in Germany. While the reduced equipment list requires a few compromises, the unchanged electric drivetrain and core cabin features make the new Start version an important addition to Opel’s compact EV lineup.
