Renault 5 Turbo 3E Leads Electric Charge at Goodwood Festival of Speed

Renault is set to make a major impact at the Goodwood Festival of Speed, unveiling a bold electric line-up headlined by the UK dynamic debut of the Renault 5 Turbo 3E. Alongside it, the brand will showcase two key upcoming models: the Renault Twingo E-Tech electric and the Renault 4 E-Tech electric ‘plein sud’.

Set against the iconic hillclimb in West Sussex, Renault’s presence highlights its growing ambition in both high-performance EVs and accessible electric mobility.

Renault 5 Turbo 3E: A 555hp Electric Mini Supercar

The Renault 5 Turbo 3E reimagines the legendary Renault 5 Turbo of the 1980s with a striking retro-futuristic design and extreme electric performance.

Powered by dual rear in-wheel motors, it produces an astonishing 555 hp and 4,800 Nm of torque, making it the most powerful road-going Renault ever built. Despite its compact footprint, it delivers supercar-level acceleration, sprinting from 0–62 mph in under 3.5 seconds.

Its advanced 800-volt architecture supports ultra-fast 330 kW charging, allowing the battery to go from 15% to 80% in just 15 minutes. A 70 kWh battery provides a projected range of over 400 km (pending homologation), balancing performance with usability.

Limited to 1,980 individually numbered units—a nod to the original model’s launch year—the Turbo 3E will be custom-built for buyers, with extensive personalization options. Pricing is expected to start from £140,000, positioning it as a niche but highly desirable electric performance icon.

Twingo E-Tech Electric: Affordable EV for the Masses

Also making its dynamic UK debut, the Renault Twingo E-Tech electric signals a renewed push toward affordable EVs in Europe.

Targeting a starting price below £20,000, it aims to lower the barrier to entry for electric mobility. The compact city car offers a WLTP range of up to 163 miles, powered by a 60 kW motor and an LFP battery designed for durability and cost efficiency.

Despite its entry-level positioning, the Twingo introduces features typically found in larger vehicles, including One Pedal driving and the OpenR Link infotainment system with Google built-in. Its playful styling—nicknamed “le frog”—adds personality to the urban EV segment.

Renault 4 E-Tech ‘Plein Sud’: Open-Air Electric Driving

Renault is also showcasing a lifestyle-focused twist on its retro-inspired EV lineup with the Renault 4 E-Tech electric ‘plein sud’.

Its standout feature is an electric-powered canvas roof that opens via button or voice control, revealing an expansive 80 × 92 cm opening. The design blends open-air freedom with everyday practicality, maintaining strong insulation and sealing when closed.

This model reflects Renault’s strategy of combining heritage design cues with modern EV functionality, appealing to drivers looking for something distinctive.

Renault 5 E-Tech Electric Completes the Line-Up

Completing the display is the award-winning Renault 5 E-Tech electric, a cornerstone of Renault’s EV strategy.

With up to 252 miles (WLTP) of range, fast-charging capability, and a chassis tuned for agility, it represents the brand’s vision of fun, practical electric mobility for everyday use.

A Statement of Intent at Goodwood

Renault’s presence at the Goodwood Festival of Speed underscores its dual approach to electrification: pushing the limits of performance while making EVs more accessible.

From the extreme capabilities of the 5 Turbo 3E to the affordability of the Twingo E-Tech, the lineup demonstrates how the brand is reshaping its iconic models for the electric era—without losing character or driving appeal.

With live hillclimb runs in front of hundreds of thousands of spectators, the event provides the perfect stage to showcase not just new vehicles, but Renault’s evolving identity in the EV space.
