Volvo EX90 owners can now send power back to their homes with V2H charging

Volvo Cars announced today that 2025 Volvo EX90 owners in the United States can now harness the power of bi-directional charging through dcbel’s Ara Home Energy Station, turning their vehicle into a versatile energy source whenever it’s needed most.

The EX90, the company’s flagship fully electric SUV, is the first Volvo car equipped with the necessary hardware and software to leverage bi-directional charging. It transforms from a fully electric SUV into a flexible energy hub, capable of sending power back to the home.

Additionally, this allows for the opportunity to use the EX90 to power the home during blackout situations. This marks a key step in Volvo Cars’ electrification journey.

With bi-directional charging, electric vehicles also have the potential to contribute to less strain on the power grid while plugged in during peak times and smartly managing how you power your home.

dcbel states that its Ara Home Energy Station simplifies smart home energy, allowing people to take control of their energy supply with a single device. It enables energy to flow in both directions between your home and EV—powering a home, charging vehicles, and helping prevent outages through vehicle-to-home capability.

Fully rated for indoor and outdoor installation, the Ara system can charge two EVs simultaneously in both AC and DC while managing all household energy sources intelligently with built-in AI.

“We continue to enhance the benefits of ownership of our flagship EX90 by enabling it to send power back to the home through bi-directional charging,” said Jim Nichols, Head of Product & Technology Consumer Offer for Volvo Cars in the Americas. “By working with dcbel, we’re taking an important next step in our electrification and smart home energy strategy journey to offer smarter home energy options and added peace of mind.”

Customers interested in purchasing the Ara Home Energy Station can now reserve a system directly from dcbel.
