Toyota has officially revealed its latest electric vehicle, the 2025 Toyota bZ7 sedan, at the 2025 Shanghai motor show.
The bZ7 is a product of Toyota’s joint venture with GAC in China and is expected to utilize BYD’s ‘Blade’ lithium-iron-phosphate (LFP) battery technology.
Set to compete with the Tesla Model S and Chinese EVs like the BYD Han and Xiaomi SU7, the bZ7 will initially go on sale in China later this year, joining the bZ3 and bZ5 in Toyota’s local EV lineup. Currently, the bZ4X is Toyota’s only global bZ model.
While the full details are still emerging, we know the bZ7 is a substantial sedan, exceeding five meters in length. Inside, the focus appears to be on elevated comfort and technology.
Expect larger displays compared to the bZ4X, along with luxurious leather upholstery and refined woodgrain trim across the dashboard. Toyota is also touting the inclusion of the latest intelligent features, including a smart cockpit experience and advanced driving support systems.
Visually, the bZ7 offers a fresh yet familiar aesthetic. The slim, angular headlights and upright intakes ahead of the wheels provide a clear link to the Toyota family. At the rear, the high-set taillights contribute to a modern look. Interestingly, the bZ7 also incorporates a full-width front light bar, a design element recently seen on the new Toyota Prius.
The strategic launch of an electric sedan underscores the strong and enduring popularity of this vehicle type, particularly in the thriving Chinese EV market. This move follows the unveiling of a concept previewing the bZ7 late last year, and mirrors Nissan’s own joint-venture endeavors with the Dongfeng-produced Nissan N7 concept, another premium electric vehicle of similar stature.
Keep an eye out for more details on the Toyota bZ7 as its market launch approaches!
