Milence announces second charging hub in the Netherlands

Milence, the joint venture between Daimler Truck, the TRATON GROUP and the Volvo Group, has announced its second charging hub in the Netherlands.

The new hub is located at business park Hessenpoort in Zwolle, and is scheduled to be operational by December 2024. The hub will provide an easy and reliable charging experience for all battery-electric heavy-duty trucks, regardless of brand.

Business park Hessenpoort, a major logistics hub in Zwolle, is home to a variety of businesses, from logistics and distribution centers to manufacturing plants and service providers. Sustainable development and green technologies are paramount at the park, aligning perfectly with Milence’s dedication to a fossil-free future.

Strategically located near the A28 and A50 highways the new hub is a key node on the North Sea/Baltic corridor and connects major seaports such as Rotterdam and Hamburg.

The charging hub in Zwolle will be developed in two phases. Building will begin in September, with the first phase scheduled to be operational by December 2024.

The first phase will include four Combined Charging System (CCS) chargers, powering eight charging bays. Milence plans a swift transition to Megawatt Charging System (MCS) technology with the hub, including one MCS charger powering two charging bays, as soon as the technology is available.

To provide a seamless experience for both the truck and the driver, the hub will feature multiple amenities, such as sanitary facilities, a drivers’ lounge, and vending machines offering drinks and snacks. To ensure on-site safety and comfort, the charging hub will be fenced, illuminated, and equipped with camera surveillance.

The second phase will expand the facility with additional MCS chargers and up to sixteen charging bays. Furthermore, additional sanitary facilities and vending machines will be added.

“This is another important milestone in our mission to create a comprehensive charging network throughout Europe. With the already operational charging hub in Venlo and the recent opening of the hub in Port of Antwerp-Bruges, the network expansion in the Benelux region will provide a robust support to logistics companies and shippers and will enable the operation of multiple electric routes, thereby helping these businesses achieve their sustainability goals,” said Anja van Niersen, CEO of Milence.
