2024 Volkswagen ID.4 earns TOP SAFETY PICK honors from IIHS

The 2024 Volkswagen ID.4 electric SUV was named a TOP SAFETY PICK by the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS). It joins the 2024 Volkswagen Atlas and Atlas Cross Sport on the 2024 TOP SAFETY PICK list.

To qualify for the 2024 TOP SAFETY PICK award, vehicles need good ratings in the small overlap front, original moderate overlap front and updated side test as well as acceptable- or good-rated headlights across all trim levels. An acceptable or good rating in a revised version of the pedestrian front crash prevention evaluation is also required. The new version replaces the earlier daytime and nighttime tests with a single evaluation that includes some test runs in daylight and some in the dark.

The ID.4 comes with acceptable or good headlights, depending on the trim level. Its standard front crash prevention system earns an acceptable rating in the IIHS pedestrian test. The SUV did not undergo the updated moderate overlap front test, so it is not eligible for the higher-tier TOP SAFETY PICK+ award. An acceptable or good rating in the updated test is required for the “plus.”

The IQ.DRIVE system is standard on all ID.4 trims for model year 2024. The system utilizes front and rear radar, a front camera and several ultrasound sensors to collect data from the surrounding area, enabling Travel Assist (semi-automated driving assistance); Front Assist (Forward Collision Warning and Automatic Emergency Braking with Pedestrian Monitoring); Active Side Assist (Blind Spot Monitor); Rear Traffic Alert; Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC) Stop and Go; Lane Assist (Lane Keeping System); and Emergency Assist (semi-automated vehicle assistance in a medical emergency).

In addition to IQ.DRIVE, the 2024 ID.4 has standard Park Distance Control, Park Assist Plus with Memory Parking, Dynamic Road Sign Display, Light Assist (High Beam Control for headlights) and available Area View (Overhead View Camera).

MSRP for the 2024 ID.4 starts at $39,735 for 62 kWh models and $44,875 for 82 kWh models, and destination is $1,425.
