Toyota UK announces all-new Prius Plug-in range and pricing. The launch line-up for Pruis Plug-in comprises two versions: Design (OTR price £37,315) and Excel (£39,955).

The Toyota Prius is back in the UK, an all-new plug-in hybrid electric model returning the famous nameplate to the market this spring.

As might be expected of a car that has a distinguished history of pushing the boundaries of electrified performance, the latest, third generation Prius Plug-in delivers even greater fuel economy, emissions efficiency and EV driving capability, matched to sharp, coupe-like styling.

The initial range offers two versions – Design and Excel – powered by a 2.0-litre plug-in system benefiting from fifth generation Toyota hybrid electric technology. The powertrain delivers a maximum 220bhp (223 DIN hp/164kW), a significant increase on the 121bhp (122 DIN hp/90kW) of the previous Prius plug-in model that ensures strong, responsive acceleration.

Up to 53.4 miles EV driving range from the car’s 13.6kWh lithium-ion battery allows fully electric driving on most daily journeys. For longer trips, or when charging is not practical, the plug-in hybrid system has enhanced output and a combined WLTP CO2 emissions rating of 12g/km – the lowest yet for a Prius.

Balance and handling have also been enhanced, thanks to the evolution of the Toyota New Global Architecture (TNGA) GA-C platform, which brings lower weight and higher rigidity for a more stable ride. A lower centre of gravity, helped by placing the EV battery under the rear seat and moving the fuel tank lower and further forward, contributes to enhanced driving dynamics and agility.

Where styling is concerned, Prius’s signature wedge shape has evolved to present more elegant lines. A coupé-like silhouette has been created by lowering the overall height by 50mm, moving the roof peak rearwards and adopting larger diameter wheels, up to 19 inches.

The wheelbase is 50mm longer, yet the overall length has been shortened by 46mm. The rear view is accented by a three-dimensional linear lighting element focusing attention on the Prius logo.

Inside, a spacious cabin has a clean interior layout. For driver and passengers alike, the interior is spacious and constructed from stylish, high-value materials, accentuated by harmonious design elements which highlight a dynamic feel and sense of purpose.

Prius Plug-in comprises two versions: Design (OTR price £37,315) and Excel (£39,955).

Key equipment features on the Design model include 17-inch alloy wheels, smart entry, rear privacy glass, the Toyota Smart Connect+ multimedia system with both cloud-based and embedded navigation, fully digital driver’s combimeter, parking sensors with obstacle, vehicle and pedestrian detection and dual-zone air conditioning with nanoe-X air quality system. The latest generation Toyota Safety Sense active safety and driver assistance systems are also provided as standard.

The Excel rides on 19-inch wheels and come with eight-way power adjustable front seats with memory setting and integrated heating and ventilation. A digital rear-view mirror and power back door are also included in the specification.

Customer ordering will commence on 4 March with first vehicles scheduled to arrive from July.
