Audi and China’s SAIC to Work Together on Electric Vehicles

Audi and Chinese automaker SAIC have agreed to partner on electric vehicle projects, as Audi seeks to halt a slide in market share in China.

Audi has faced delays in developing a new EV platform, hindering its ability to compete with European and Chinese EV makers.

To address this issue, Audi is exploring the possibility of utilizing SAIC’s EV platform, which was developed for the IM L7 saloon and IM LS7 SUV. This platform features an advanced 800V electric architecture and was designed to accommodate wheelbases ranging from 2800mm to 3200mm.

“All stakeholders agree that the Chinese auto market is in the midst of the biggest transformation in its history, therefore we will jointly work on a strategic approach that guarantees our future success,” SAIC said, without elaborating on the details of the agreement.

It’s worth noting that Audi’s parent company, Volkswagen, already collaborates with SAIC for the production of gasoline-powered vehicles.
