
Chinese electric vehicle maker NIO outpaced XPeng Motors in August electric vehicle deliveries, according to sales reports Thursday.
While NIO’s August sales increased modestly compared to July, XPeng saw its deliveries decrease after issuing conservative guidance earlier in the month.
NIO delivered 10,677 vehicles in August 2022, up 6% compared to July. However, that represented an increase of 81.6% year-over-year. The deliveries consisted of 7,551 premium smart electric SUVs, and 3,126 premium smart electric sedans. Cumulative deliveries of NIO vehicles reached 238,626 as of August 31, 2022.
In August, the production and delivery of the ES7, a mid-large five-seater premium smart electric SUV based on NIO Technology 2.0 (NT2), started to ramp up steadily. 398 ES7s were delivered to users in August 2022.
XPeng delivered 9,578 vehicles in August, down 16% versus July’s number of 11,524 cars. That was also a 33% year-on-year rise.
The company delivered 90,085 Smart EVs in total for the first eight months in 2022, representing a 96% increase year-over-year.
August deliveries consisted of 5,745 P7s, the company’s smart sports sedan, 2,678 P5 smart family sedans and 1,155 G3i and G3 smart compact SUVs.
