DeLorean Motor Company, a Texas-based company behind the iconic gull-winged car, has released its first sneak peak of their upcoming electric vehicle.
The DeLorean EV is targeting a 100kWh battery pack that should provide an all-electric range of more than 300 miles (483 km). It will accelerate from 0-62mph (0-100 km/h) in around 3 seconds. The top speed is projected to be 155mph (250 km/h).
Called the Alpha5, it will make its debut at Pebble Beach in August before being put into production in 2024.
The long-awaited concept car is the culmination of a 40+ year history with the prestigious design company Italdesign and DeLorean’s new interpretation of a modern icon.
Taking design cues from the past to inspire the future, the new EV visibly showcases its iconic DNA. “The Alpha5 is a representation of the past 40 years of DeLorean,” said Troy Beetz, Chief Marketing Officer of DeLorean Motor Company. “There was this enormous responsibility to make sure we honored the history of the DeLorean brand, but an even greater responsibility in curating its future…I think we did both with the Alpha5.”
