Jeep launches Renegade and Jeep Compass 4xe plug-in hybrids in Europe

Ever faithful to its adventurous history of taking new paths and breaking down barriers, the Jeep brand is set to sail into the future of mobility with an electric evolution of its award-winning SUVs.

Now, the new Jeep Renegade and Jeep Compass 4xe vehicles with plug-in hybrid technology are available in selected European markets. Customers in major European markets – including Italy, Spain, Germany, France, the UK, the Netherlands, Belgium and Austria – will be the first to discover the “First Edition” of the first Jeep plug-in hybrid models.

The exclusive “First Edition”, full of equipment and features, represents the first steps in Europe along a pathway of uncompromising electrification. A no-compromise hybrid solution that integrates the unmatched technical layout of each Jeep SUV, turning Jeep Renegade and Jeep Compass into vehicles that provide absolute freedom while taking their capability to the next level through some of the most advanced technology, which combines enhanced performance (up to 240 hp), improved safety (4×4 is always available) and low environmental impact (up to 50 km of range in pure electric and less than 50 g/km of CO2 in the hybrid mode).

First Edition

The “First Edition” limited-edition model will be available on Renegade and Compass 4xe vehicles only to customers who declare their interest by March 9 through the dedicated local web platform. First Edition will be offered in two different configurations (depending on the market) based on the top-of-the-range trims: Urban, based on the S trim and Off-road, based on the Trailhawk trim. With both configurations, the exclusive First Edition launch model will include comprehensive technological and driving assistance features as standard, along with a full package of home and public recharging solutions. The overall power is 240 hp, with an increase in torque’s output up to 50% (versus the diesel Trailhawk with 170 hp), resulting from the combination between the 1.3-litre turbo petrol engine with automatic gearbox driving the front axle, and the electric engine running the rear wheels. The electric unit is powered by a battery which is rechargeable while driving or from an external outlet: at home, using a domestic charging unit with the associated cable and the efficient Wallbox included in the First Edition pack; or at a public recharging point, with the specific mode 3 cable, also provided with the First Edition pack. The combination of internal combustion engine and the electric unit guarantee performance and extraordinary driving pleasure: acceleration from 0 to 100 km/h in about seven seconds, CO2 emissions lower than 50 g/km (NEDC2) and a maximum speed of 130 km/h in electric mode only, which reaches 200 km/h in the hybrid mode.

Pioneers in electric evolution without compromise

“Early buyers” can secure the top of the range Jeep 4xe models in terms of performance, comprehensive equipment and specific configuration: the Urban models feature a sporty look and a top level trim in terms of elegance, content and technological equipment; the Off-road models deliver benchmark “Trail-rated” 4×4 capability, courtesy of the specific standard equipment designed for customers who require the best in terms of off-road performance.

Exclusive equipment and features for electric driving
Together with the exclusive First Edition sticker, the new Renegade and Compass 4xe will feature the new Driving mode: Hybrid, Full Electric, E-save; specific e-features as Sport Mode, Eco coaching and Smart Charging which allow recharging from both the vehicle Uconnect radio or from the driver’s smartphone. 4xe will also have specific features and design elements, including 19-inch wheels (for the Urban configuration) and 17-inch wheels (for the Off-road, the one better suited for off-road driving), high visibility headlights (Full LED on Renegade, Bi-Xenon on Compass), Uconnect NAV with 8.4″ touchscreen, smartphone integration and advanced on-board connectivity (as managing the recharge from the radio and also from the smartphone); 7-inch TFT display with all driving information as battery charge level, range (electric and hybrid); Blind Spot, Rear Camera, Park Assist, Parking sensors, Keyless go with Passive entry; electrical mirrors; Cable mode 3 for Public charging, and other features specific for each model.

Five exterior colors complete the specification on the First Edition: these include Carbon Black, Alpine White, Granite Crystal Metallic, Blue Shade and Sting Grey.

Always charged
The Jeep Renegade and Compass 4xe First Edition models will include a 5-year vehicle and an 8-year battery warranty, and will be available in a specific launch pack including home charging solutions via the Hybrid Wallbox. This will provide owners with a “Plug & Play” solution, including charging power up to 3 kW and a 3.5-hour charging time. This solution will also offer the chance to increase charging speed and reduce the time to 100 minutes by upgrading charging power to 7.4 kW while maintaining the same hardware. For the commercial launch, four trim levels – Longitude, Limited, S and Trailhawk, will join the exclusive “First Edition” and will complete the Renegade and Compass 4xe line-up. All PHEV models will arrive in Jeep showrooms early next summer.

The new “Jeep 4xe” badge
The new Jeep Renegade and Compass First Edition vehicles will carry the new ”Jeep 4xe” badge, which will distinguish all the electrified models of the Jeep brand. Electrification is at the heart of the brand’s “e-mobility” concept, which has efficiency, performance and responsibility as its main pillars.

Efficiency means driving a powerful hybrid engine which provides unprecedented levels of fuel economy. The extensive range in pure electric allows Jeep 4xe models to travel exclusively on electric power for most daily commutes in the city ensuring easy charging and zero worries. Furthermore, the combination with a turbo petrol engine eliminates any range anxiety.

Performance is never left behind. The Jeep 4xe models are more fuel efficient, while remaining loyal to their all-terrain capability and improving the driving experience (up to 240 hp) and safety with their always-available four-wheel drive (even when the battery is low). At the same time, the increased power and torque offered by the electric engine and a more controlled and precise torque output provide even more 4×4 capability on any terrain for extreme off-road adventures. In addition, smooth, instant acceleration and response make driving on tarmac more fun.

Lastly, social and environmental responsibility: thanks to the plug-in hybrid electric technology, CO2 emissions are lower than 50 g/km in hybrid mode, and range is 50 kilometers in pure electric mode, with no driver input required. The Renegade and Compass 4xe will be more environmentally friendly – 100% of the Renegade underbody will be made of recycled plastic, with 40% of the fuel tank made of recycled materials.

The new Jeep 4xe models offer an efficient, environmentally friendly and thrilling driving experience when driving in the city as off the beaten track, further strengthening the values of freedom, adventure, authenticity and passion, which have always been at the core of the brand’s DNA.
