BYD will deliver the largest fleet of pure electric articulated buses in Europe to Norway’s capital city, Oslo. Two orders have been placed by Nobina, the first European operator to put Chinese produced BYD 18m ebuses into operation, for a total of 42 units of the BYD 18m. BYD has had two artics running in Oslo since last year December which are Norway’s first electric artics.
The 42 electric buses, equipped with pantograph charging, are scheduled for delivery in the second quarter of 2019 and will mean a fleet of 44 vehicles in total. It is thought to be the largest electric articulated fleet in Europe.
The new electric buses will service routes in the Oslo area and in particular in the east of the capital city, and are replacing a current fleet of diesel vehicles.
In a related news, BYD has secured its second electric bus fleet order in Spain. The order for 15 pure electric 12 metre BYD ebuses is at the also the largest ever 12m electric bus fleet order in Spain.
The vehicles, which will operate in the city of Badajoz, have been ordered by TUBASA, a public transport operator belonging to Grupo Ruiz, one of Spain’s leading road passenger transport groups. In April this year, BYD already confirmed another Spanish order, eight 12m ebuses for the city Badalona in Barcelona province, which is scheduled for delivery in the beginning of 2019.
All BYD electric buses will be equipped with the latest advanced generation BYD Iron-Phosphate batteries including thermal management system, and powerful rear axles. The vehicles are expected to be delivered in spring next year.
