Zap Xebra Recalled for Brake Problem

‎Zap is recalling Xebra electric vehicles from the 2008 model year to correct a flaw in their brake systems, according to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.

The Zap Xebra is an enclosed electric three-wheel vehicle that is generally classified as a motorcycle. The 2008 vehicles do not have a separate brake fluid reservoir for each brake circuit, which is required under federal motor vehicle rules.

In a document filed with the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, Zap said the recall affects 691 Xebras.

Without a separate reservoir for each brake, having its own cover, seal, and cover retention device, fluid for one brake circuit may move to the other. If this happens, both reservoirs could lose fluid as a result of a fluid leak in one brake circuit and compromise the stopping ability of the braking system, increasing the risk of a crash.

ZAP will notify owners and will refit the vehicles or send a remedy kit to owners that will bring the Xebra vehicles into compliance. Owners may contact ZAP Customer Service at 1-800-251-4555.
