A French court ruled Wednesday that the Renault can call its new electric car, the ‘Zoe’, after two families with daughters named Zoe Renault lost a legal battle.
The families, who are not related to the car company, wanted Renault to choose another name for the model. The main argument of the parents is that they don’t want their girls to share a name with an electric car for fear of lifetime mockery.
However, a judge didn’t see any reason and clear evidence how the car being named Zoe can cause “certain, direct and current harm”, allowing Renault to go on as planned.
The French company, looking to highlight the vehicle’s environmental credentials, selected Zoe as a name for the car as it means ´life´ in Greek.
The Renault Zoe ZE (zero emission) is a fully electric car set for launch in 2012.
