Mitsubishi and PSA Peugeot Citroen have signed an agreement to develop light commercial electric vehicles based on Peugeot Partner and Citroen Berlingo.
The carmakers said they will begin technical development of electric vans with the aim of beginning production by the end of 2012 at the PSA Vigo plant in Spain.
Back in June, PSA said it will work with Mitsubishi to develop electric vehicle powertrains, initially focusing on light commercial vehicles, back in June.
Last year, PSA Peugeot Citroen and Mitsubishi signed a deal to develop electric vehicles for both Peugeot and Citroen based on Mitsubishi i-MiEV. Peugeot introduced the iOn at the Frankfurt Motor Show in September, while Citroen unveiled its version — the C-ZERO electric car.
The carmakers are also planning to launch of a compact SUV in Europe in early 2012, based on the existing Mitsubishi RVR in Japan and its European counterpart, the ASX.
