Mercedes-Benz plans to open orders for MB.DRIVE ASSIST PRO in Germany in the first half of 2027, bringing its NVIDIA-developed urban driving assistance system to more customers. Eligible existing vehicles will also be able to receive the function through an over-the-air software update.
The SAE Level 2 system extends driving assistance beyond motorways, supporting drivers through junctions, lane changes and busy city streets along an active navigation route. Drivers must remain continuously attentive and responsible for the vehicle at all times.
Driving Assistance From Motorways to City Streets
MB.DRIVE ASSIST PRO is designed to support journeys from start to destination, connecting navigation with assistance for everyday driving tasks.
With navigation active, drivers can switch on the system using a steering-wheel button. It can assist with changing lanes, positioning the vehicle in the correct lane, turning at junctions, and braking and moving off at traffic lights.
That support also covers transitions between different road environments, such as leaving a motorway and continuing into dense urban traffic.
The system uses Mercedes-Benz’s hands-on cooperative steering concept, allowing drivers to provide steering input at any time. Despite its broader capabilities, MB.DRIVE ASSIST PRO remains a driver assistance system, requiring continuous supervision.
Early Access Starts in Late 2026
Selected customers in Stuttgart and Munich will receive early access from the end of 2026, ahead of the planned German order launch.
Mercedes-Benz will contact eligible owners individually. Vehicles must have the necessary hardware, with the function delivered through an over-the-air update. Feedback from these early users will help support further development.
A complimentary one-month trial is also planned through the Mercedes-Benz Store, giving owners of suitably equipped vehicles an opportunity to try the system.
Availability will depend on the model, with a rollout planned across the Mercedes-Benz passenger car and van portfolio. Model eligibility and pricing will be announced ahead of the respective market launches.
NVIDIA Technology and 27 Sensors
MB.DRIVE ASSIST PRO combines the Mercedes-Benz MB.OS operating system with NVIDIA’s Hyperion computing and sensor architecture, Halos safety system and Alpamayo Stack software.
Its hardware includes 27 sensors: ten cameras, five radar sensors and twelve ultrasonic sensors. These feed data to a high-performance computer capable of processing up to 254 trillion operations per second.
The combination provides the computing and sensing foundation needed to support assistance across complex urban routes.
Mercedes-Benz says the planned German introduction will make it the first automaker to offer this type of system in Germany, alongside its availability in China and the United States.
The company also points to the updated UN R171 framework for Driver Control Assistance Systems as a foundation for wider European availability. According to Mercedes-Benz, the framework could allow the function to reach additional EU markets without further regulatory approval.
For customers, the next key details will be which vehicles qualify and how much the function will cost. Those announcements will follow before launch, with German orders scheduled to begin in the first half of 2027.
