Mercedes-AMG has unveiled the new AMG GT SUV, an all-electric performance SUV developed from the ground up as the brand’s first full-size SUV engineered entirely in-house. Built on the high-performance AMG.EA architecture, the new model combines sports car performance with SUV practicality, introducing up to 1,169 horsepower, ultra-fast charging and advanced active suspension technology.
The new Mercedes-AMG GT SUV will be offered in three variants: the AMG GT 53 SUV, AMG GT 55 SUV and range-topping AMG GT 63 SUV. The entry-level GT 53 is scheduled to open for orders on October 20, 2026, with prices starting at €113,050. The GT 55 and GT 63 will follow in spring 2027.
Mercedes-AMG GT SUV Delivers Up to 1,169 HP
The new AMG GT SUV features two distinct electric drivetrain configurations, depending on the model.
The flagship AMG GT 63 SUV uses three axial-flux electric motors to deliver up to 860 kW (1,169 hp). The AMG GT 55 SUV produces up to 600 kW (816 hp) using the same three-motor configuration, while the entry-level AMG GT 53 SUV relies on two synchronous electric motors, one on each axle, generating a combined 400 kW (544 hp).
The performance figures put the flagship firmly in supercar territory. Mercedes-AMG claims the GT 63 SUV can accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in just 2.5 seconds and reach 200 km/h in 6.8 seconds. Its top speed is 270 km/h when equipped with the optional Driver’s Package.
The GT 63 and GT 55 use advanced electric drive units that integrate compact gearboxes, oil-cooled motors and silicon-carbide inverters. The front motor acts as a booster when additional power or traction is needed and can disconnect under lighter loads to reduce energy losses.
The dual-motor GT 53 follows a different approach, combining a front boost motor with a two-speed transmission at the rear. This configuration is designed to deliver strong acceleration while improving efficiency and comfort during everyday driving and longer highway journeys.
All three versions feature AMG Performance 4MATIC+ all-wheel drive, with intelligent torque distribution to help maximise traction and stability in changing road conditions.
Up to 700 km of Range and 710 kW Charging
Battery technology is one of the most significant features of the new Mercedes-AMG GT SUV. The model will be available with two high-performance battery configurations offering usable capacities of 106 kWh and 128 kWh.
The larger battery, featuring 22 modules, enables a claimed WLTP driving range of up to 700 km. The smaller battery uses 18 modules and is engineered to deliver sustained performance alongside rapid charging.
Both versions use 800-volt technology and directly cooled cylindrical battery cells. Instead of relying solely on conventional cooling plates, a specialised electrically non-conductive oil circulates directly around individual cells to help maintain consistent temperatures during demanding driving and high-power charging.
The result is a battery system designed to sustain high output repeatedly, rather than delivering maximum performance only for short periods.
Charging performance is equally notable. The 106 kWh battery supports DC charging at up to 600 kW, while the 128 kWh version raises peak charging power to 710 kW.
Mercedes-AMG says the smaller battery can add up to 380 km of WLTP range in 10 minutes, while the larger pack can add up to 450 km under the stated conditions. With the 128 kWh battery, charging from 10% to 80% can take as little as 12 minutes.
At a 400 kW charging station, the corresponding charging times are approximately 14 minutes for the 106 kWh battery and 16 minutes for the 128 kWh version.
These figures are manufacturer claims and depend on charging conditions, battery temperature and other factors. Actual charging performance and the availability of compatible high-power chargers will vary by market.
New AMG ACTIVE RIDE CONTROL+ Suspension
The AMG GT SUV is designed to combine high-speed stability with the comfort expected from a large luxury SUV. Its new AMG ACTIVE RIDE CONTROL+ suspension uses active hydraulic technology to control body movements during acceleration, braking and cornering.
Instead of conventional stabiliser bars, active hydraulic elements manage pitch and roll. Three-stage adjustable air springs and an integrated 8.2-litre pressure reservoir allow the system to adapt to changing driving conditions, balancing body control with ride comfort.
The suspension is standard on the AMG GT 63 SUV and optional on the GT 55 SUV.
Active rear-axle steering is also included. At speeds below 80 km/h, the rear wheels turn in the opposite direction to the front wheels to improve agility and manoeuvrability. At higher speeds, they turn in the same direction as the front wheels, helping improve stability during fast lane changes and high-speed cornering.
The AMG GT 63 and GT 55 also feature targeted torque vectoring, allowing drive power to be distributed between the rear wheels to support more precise handling.
Braking hardware differs by variant. The GT 53 and GT 55 come with steel brakes as standard, although carbon-ceramic brakes are available for the GT 55. The flagship GT 63 features carbon-ceramic brakes as standard.
Simulated V8 Sound and AMGFORCE Sport+ Mode
Despite its fully electric drivetrain, the Mercedes-AMG GT SUV aims to preserve the emotional character associated with the brand’s combustion-engine performance models.
The AMGFORCE Sport+ driving programme reproduces the sound of an AMG V8 in the GT 63 and GT 55, while the GT 53 simulates the sound of an AMG six-cylinder engine.
Mercedes-AMG says the sound profiles were developed using more than 100 measurements captured with 16 microphones and reference vehicles, including the AMG GT R. The system adapts the audio experience in real time to acceleration, driving style and simulated gear changes.
The programme goes beyond sound reproduction. Simulated gear changes, steering-wheel paddle inputs, dedicated instrument graphics and integrated seat shakers are intended to create a more immersive driving experience.
Drivers can also adjust sound intensity and choose between different sound profiles, including Powerful, Balanced and Silent.
For additional customisation, the AMG RACE ENGINEER system in the GT 63 and GT 55 provides three rotary controls that adjust accelerator response, cornering behaviour and traction control. This allows drivers to tailor the vehicle’s dynamics to road conditions or track driving.
Seven AMG DYNAMIC SELECT driving programmes are available: Comfort, Sport, AMGFORCE Sport+, RACE, Slippery, Individual and Eco. The modes alter the vehicle’s power delivery, suspension settings, traction management and other driving characteristics.
Active Aerodynamics Improve Efficiency and Stability
The new AMG GT SUV combines a low roofline with active aerodynamic systems designed to balance efficiency and high-speed stability.
The AEROKINETICS Airpanel uses active slats in the front bumper to regulate cooling airflow. The slats remain closed when additional cooling is unnecessary, helping reduce aerodynamic drag, and open when the vehicle requires more cooling.
On the GT 63 and GT 55, an active rear roof spoiler adjusts its position according to speed and driving conditions. From 150 km/h, the system can adapt its angle to reduce drag or generate additional aerodynamic support for improved stability and traction.
The vehicle’s low-slung silhouette, flat-integrated battery and carefully packaged interior also contribute to its aerodynamic profile. Despite its sporting proportions, Mercedes-AMG says the SUV retains generous interior space, useful ground clearance and the practical features expected of the segment.
Sporty Exterior and Driver-Focused Interior
The Mercedes-AMG GT SUV adopts a distinctive performance-oriented design, with a steep front end, broad shoulders, muscular wheel arches and an elongated roofline that slopes towards the rear spoiler.
Its front end features an AMG-specific grille with vertical metallic struts, while the lighting signature includes star-inspired daytime running lights and six circular rear lights arranged in a turbine-style design. An illuminated grille and illuminated central Mercedes-Benz star are available as options.
Frameless side windows, compact exterior mirrors and large wheels reinforce the model’s sporty character without abandoning the proportions of a full-size SUV.
Inside, the cabin draws heavily on the AMG GT sports car concept. The driver sits in a relatively low, integrated seating position, with the cockpit arranged around a 14-inch multimedia display and a 10.2-inch digital instrument cluster. A separate 14-inch screen is available for the front passenger.
The centre console houses the AMG RACE ENGINEER controls in the GT 63 and GT 55, while the AMG Performance steering wheel provides direct access to key driving functions and energy-recovery settings.
Despite the sloping roofline, Mercedes-AMG says the rear cabin offers generous headroom and legroom. A three-seat rear bench comes standard, with folding seatbacks to increase cargo flexibility.
The optional SKY CONTROL panoramic glass roof can switch between transparent and opaque states. Buyers can also select optional AMG Performance seats, a Burmester 4D sound system and a wide range of interior materials and upholstery finishes.
MB.OS, AI Assistants and AMG TRACK PACE
The new AMG GT SUV introduces the latest generation of Mercedes-Benz’s MBUX infotainment system, based on the Mercedes-Benz Operating System (MB.OS).
The system supports multiple display layouts, customisable shortcuts and context-sensitive suggestions. Its virtual assistant integrates AI services from ChatGPT, Microsoft Bing and Google Gemini to support more complex, multi-step conversations.
Three dedicated AMG applications extend the digital experience. The AMG PERFORMANCE MENU displays information such as power output, energy flow, aerodynamic settings, tyre pressure and vehicle temperatures. AMG SET-UP allows drivers to customise vehicle functions, while AMG TRACK PACE provides detailed data for circuit driving.
TRACK PACE records more than 80 vehicle-specific data points at a rate of 10 times per second, covering telemetry, acceleration and lap performance. Preloaded circuits, sector timing and augmented-reality features are designed to help drivers analyse their performance on track.
The SUV also features a Predictive Performance Manager derived from technology first used during the CONCEPT AMG GT XX’s record-breaking programme. It manages power delivery according to the demands of individual track sections, helping preserve electrical and thermal energy for areas where additional output can make a greater difference to lap times.
Extensive MANUFAKTUR Personalisation
Mercedes-AMG will offer extensive customisation options through its MANUFAKTUR programme.
Customers can choose from more than 60 exclusive exterior paint finishes, alongside distinctive forged-wheel options featuring contrasting colour accents. Available combinations include matte black wheels with accents in Angel Blue, Sunny Lime or Orange Flame.
The interior can also be personalised with coloured seat belts and a selection of upholstery and trim materials, allowing buyers to create a more individual specification.
Mercedes-AMG GT SUV Production and Availability
Production of the new Mercedes-AMG GT SUV will take place at Mercedes-Benz’s Sindelfingen complex in Germany. Assembly is scheduled for Hall 32, which has been adapted to accommodate the requirements of the AMG.EA electric performance architecture.
The historic facility, established in 1915, will also handle key body-production processes, including pressed components, body-in-white construction and painting.
The Mercedes-AMG GT SUV represents a major expansion of the brand’s electric performance strategy, combining supercar-level acceleration, high-power charging and advanced chassis technology in a full-size SUV package.
The AMG GT 53 SUV will be the first version available to order, starting October 20, 2026, at €113,050. The more powerful AMG GT 55 and AMG GT 63 SUVs are scheduled to follow in spring 2027.
