Mercedes-Benz to Test ProLogium Gen4 Battery Technology for Future Electric Vehicles

Mercedes-Benz is taking another step toward next-generation electric vehicle batteries after signing a joint testing agreement with ProLogium Holding Inc. The agreement gives Mercedes-Benz priority access to ProLogium’s latest Gen4 battery cells for extensive testing as the automaker evaluates advanced battery technology for future EV applications.

The partnership builds on nearly a decade of cooperation between Mercedes-Benz and ProLogium, which has included battery development, validation and testing of multiple cell formats and technologies.

Under the new agreement, ProLogium’s Gen4 battery technology will undergo electrical, thermal and safety testing at Mercedes-Benz facilities as well as specialized independent testing institutes. The testing is expected to provide Mercedes-Benz with data needed to determine whether the new battery technology could eventually be integrated into future electric vehicles.

ProLogium Gen4 Battery Targets Higher Energy Density and Faster Charging

ProLogium’s Gen4 battery platform is designed around five key objectives: intrinsic safety, high performance, increased energy density, scalable production and a competitive cost structure.

The battery architecture uses a non-flammable inorganic electrolyte and ceramic separator technology. ProLogium also incorporates its proprietary active safety mechanism, which is intended to improve the overall safety characteristics of the cells.

Alongside safety improvements, the Gen4 technology is being developed to deliver fast charging, high power output and improved performance in low-temperature conditions. These characteristics could be particularly important as automakers continue working to reduce charging times while increasing EV range and performance.

ProLogium says its approach is designed to move advanced battery technology beyond laboratory development and toward large-scale commercial production.

“Over nearly a decade, our collaboration with Mercedes-Benz has evolved from early cell development and validation to testing our latest Gen4 technology for future vehicle applications,” said Vincent Yang, founder and CEO of ProLogium.

Yang added that the company is focused on turning years of battery development into scalable manufacturing and commercially viable products, with its European expansion supported by Mercedes-Benz as well as the French government and European Union.

Mercedes-Benz and ProLogium Have Worked Together Since 2016

The relationship between the two companies dates back to 2016. Since then, their collaboration has expanded from early hybrid-solid-state Gen3 battery development and joint validation toward potential applications in future vehicle platforms.

Mercedes-Benz has become a long-term global automotive partner and strategic investor in ProLogium. The German automaker has also supported the development and validation of several lithium ceramic battery formats, including pouch cells, next-generation prismatic cells and ProLogium’s Bi-Polar technology.

Jörg Burzer, member of the Board of Management of Mercedes-Benz Group AG and chief technology officer for development and procurement, said the partnership combines ProLogium’s solid-state battery technology with Mercedes-Benz’s expertise in battery development, testing and vehicle integration.

The latest testing agreement therefore represents another stage in a partnership that has increasingly focused on technologies that could be used in future electric vehicles.

ProLogium Expands Battery Manufacturing in Europe

Large-scale manufacturing is a key part of ProLogium’s strategy. The company’s Taoke Gigafactory in Taiwan has completed GWh-scale manufacturing validation and supports C-sample production, demonstration vehicle programs and future commercial production.

In Europe, ProLogium is developing a planned gigafactory in Dunkirk, France. The facility is expected to eventually have production capacity of up to 44 GWh, providing localized battery manufacturing and supply-chain capabilities for European customers.

The Dunkirk facility is intended to replicate the production model established in Taiwan. Once its first phase is completed, ProLogium expects to have the capacity to supply commercial battery cells to European automakers at a scale suitable for electric vehicle platforms.

Mercedes-Benz is also represented on ProLogium’s Board of Directors and has expressed support for the company’s Dunkirk development plans. ProLogium is additionally planning a potential NASDAQ listing in the fourth quarter of 2026.

What the Gen4 Battery Could Mean for Future Mercedes EVs

The latest agreement does not confirm that ProLogium’s Gen4 cells will be used in a production Mercedes-Benz EV. The technology must first complete Mercedes-Benz’s electrical, thermal and safety evaluation before its suitability for future vehicle applications can be determined.

However, the testing highlights the growing importance of advanced battery technology as Mercedes-Benz continues developing its next generation of electric vehicles.

If ProLogium’s Gen4 cells meet the automaker’s requirements, the combination of high energy density, fast charging, high power output, low-temperature performance and safety-focused cell architecture could make the technology a candidate for future EV platforms.

For ProLogium, the agreement also represents an important step in moving its solid-state battery technology closer to automotive-scale commercialization, particularly as the company prepares to expand production in Europe.
