New Dacia Spring Gets More Space, Range and Technology

Dacia is doubling down on affordable electric mobility with the new Dacia Spring, a fully redesigned second-generation model aimed at making EV ownership accessible without unnecessary complexity or expense.

The new Spring follows Dacia’s 2030 electric strategy, which includes four all-electric models. Since its launch in 2021, the Spring has sold more than 210,000 units across more than 40 countries, establishing itself as one of Europe’s best-known budget EVs.

For the second generation, Dacia has kept the Spring name but changed almost everything else. The new model moves to Renault Group’s RG-EV Small platform, gains a larger and more practical body, updated technology and a more modern interior, while retaining the lightweight, efficiency-focused philosophy that made the original successful.

New Dacia Spring Gets Bigger and More Practical

The biggest change is the Spring’s new proportions. The redesigned electric car is 18cm wider than its predecessor, creating a more substantial stance while increasing interior space. It is also 15cm longer, measuring 3.85 meters in total, while width reaches 1.74 meters excluding the mirrors.

Despite its compact dimensions, Dacia says the new Spring offers one of the most spacious interiors in the electric A-segment.

The boot is particularly impressive for a small EV, offering up to 337 liters of cargo capacity. Folding the 50/50-split rear seat increases total load space to 1,283 liters.

An optional 18-liter front trunk, or “frunk,” adds further storage space for charging cables and other small items.

The practical approach continues inside the cabin. A removable two-section boot floor can divide the luggage compartment, while the available YouClip system provides mounting points for accessories such as a smartphone cable organizer, glasses case, shopping bag and multifunction cup-holder accessory.

More Modern Dacia Spring Design

The new Spring retains Dacia’s deliberately simple design philosophy but adopts a much more robust appearance.

The exterior features a highly geometric design, with black trim strips connecting the headlights and taillights and emphasizing the vehicle’s width. The lighting signature draws inspiration from Dacia’s Link emblem.

A black strip visually separates the roof from the body, while pronounced wheel arches, a short high bonnet and vertical front and rear sections give the compact EV a more rugged appearance.

The new Spring will be offered in four exterior colors: Agave, Shadow Grey, Diamond Black and Glacier White.

Inside, horizontal dashboard elements create a more spacious visual impression. Depending on specification, the cabin features a 7-inch digital instrument cluster and a 10.1-inch central multimedia touchscreen.

250 km Range From a 27.5-kWh Battery

The new Dacia Spring is powered by a 60 kW (80 hp) electric motor producing 175 Nm of torque.

The powertrain enables a 0-100 km/h acceleration time of 12.1 seconds and a top speed of 130 km/h. While the Spring is primarily designed around urban driving, its performance is intended to allow it to comfortably keep pace with traffic on motorways as well.

A 27.5 kWh usable LFP battery provides up to 250 km (155 miles) of WLTP combined range.

Dacia says the majority of Spring owners use their vehicles for relatively short daily journeys. First-generation owners covered an average of around 13 miles per day, with 75% charging at home.

That usage pattern highlights where the new Spring is positioned: as a simple, efficient EV for commuting, shopping and everyday transportation rather than long-distance touring.

The vehicle weighs just 1,212 kg, helping it achieve an energy consumption figure of 12.7 kWh/100 km under the WLTP combined cycle.

Charging Options Range From Home AC to 50-kW DC

The new Spring comes with a 6.6 kW AC onboard charger as standard.

Using a domestic socket, charging from 15% to 80% takes around nine hours. A heavy-duty socket reduces that time to five hours and 40 minutes, while a 7 kW home charger can complete the same charge in approximately two hours and 55 minutes.

Buyers can also choose an optional Charge Pack. This adds an 11 kW AC charger and 50 kW DC fast-charging capability.

With the optional system, a 15-80% charge can take approximately one hour and 55 minutes using an 11 kW three-phase home charger or 22 kW charging point.

At a 50 kW DC fast charger, the same 15-80% charging session takes around 28 minutes.

The Charge Pack also brings vehicle-to-load (V2L) capability, allowing the Spring to supply electricity to small devices such as lights, coffee makers and e-bike batteries.

Simple Technology With Apple CarPlay and Android Auto

Dacia has upgraded the Spring’s technology without abandoning its focus on simplicity.

The Expression trim comes with Media Control, which uses steering-wheel controls and a smartphone connection to provide access to media and phone functions. A dedicated smartphone holder is integrated into the dashboard.

The Journey trim takes connectivity further with the Media Nav Live system and its 10.1-inch central touchscreen.

Wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are supported, while connected navigation includes real-time traffic information and continuously updated European maps. The system also provides features such as charging scheduling, cabin pre-conditioning, vehicle tracking and access to connected services.

A 7-inch digital instrument cluster is standard across the range.

Designed for Easy Urban Driving

The compact dimensions and lightweight construction make the Spring particularly suited to city driving.

Its 4.95-meter turning circle improves maneuverability in tight streets and parking spaces. Automatic electric parking brake and rear parking sensors are standard, while the Journey adds a reversing camera.

The driving position can also be adjusted through a sliding, height-adjustable driver’s seat, reclining backrest and height- and reach-adjustable steering wheel.

Dacia’s My Safety system allows drivers to customize certain driver-assistance settings when starting the vehicle, reducing the need to adjust individual systems repeatedly.

Two-Trim Dacia Spring Lineup

Dacia is keeping the new Spring range deliberately simple with two trim levels: Expression and Journey.

Both versions use the same 60 kW motor, 27.5 kWh LFP battery and 6.6 kW AC onboard charger.

Expression includes 15-inch steel wheels with wheel embellishers, remote central locking, electric front windows and mirrors, manual air conditioning, automatic headlights, rear parking sensors, an electric parking brake, Media Control, a USB-C port, a 50/50 split-fold rear seat and three YouClip mounting points.

Journey adds 16-inch steel wheels, a hands-free card, reversing camera, Media Nav Live with its 10.1-inch touchscreen, navigation and connected services, two USB-C ports, a luggage compartment cover and upgraded TEP/fabric upholstery.

Built in Europe

The new Dacia Spring is being built in Europe at Renault Group’s Novo Mesto plant in Slovenia.

Its development also reflects a new Renault Group approach intended to shorten vehicle development cycles and reduce costs. Dacia says the Spring is the first model from the brand to benefit from these new development programs.

That emphasis on efficiency extends beyond manufacturing. The use of an LFP battery reduces reliance on materials such as nickel and cobalt, while the vehicle’s low weight helps keep energy consumption down.

Dacia estimates that the new Spring could reduce its carbon footprint by around 60% over its complete life cycle compared with equivalent internal-combustion models.

New Dacia Spring Expected to Cost Under £18,000

Price remains one of the most important aspects of the Spring’s appeal.

Dacia says the entire new Spring range is expected to be priced below £18,000 in the UK, before any potential government subsidies. Final UK pricing and specifications are to be announced separately.

If that target is maintained, the Spring will continue to occupy one of the most affordable positions in Europe’s new-car EV market.

The formula is straightforward: a small battery, low weight, modest power output, efficient packaging and a focus on equipment that matters for everyday driving.
