
Mercedes-Benz is scaling up production of its all-new electric GLC at its Bremen facility, marking a major step in the brand’s ongoing transition to electrification. Following its global debut in September 2025, the electric GLC has quickly become a cornerstone of the company’s EV strategy—and early demand suggests it could redefine expectations in the premium electric SUV segment.
Long regarded as one of the brand’s best-selling models, the GLC now enters a new era with a fully electric variant that blends updated design, next-generation drivetrain technology, and the advanced MB.OS operating system. Early market response has been exceptionally strong, with the electric GLC recording the highest order intake of any EV in the company’s history during the first quarter of the year.
Flexible Production at the Bremen Plant
The electric GLC is manufactured at the Mercedes-Benz Bremen Plant, a key hub within the brand’s global production network. Built in Hall 9—the facility’s largest production hall—the model shares assembly lines with combustion-engine and hybrid GLC variants, as well as the EQE.
This flexible production approach highlights the plant’s ability to handle multiple powertrain types simultaneously, a critical advantage as automakers navigate the transition from internal combustion to fully electric lineups. Operating on a three-shift schedule for over a decade, the Bremen site continues to play a central role in Mercedes-Benz’s manufacturing strategy.
A Pioneer in Electric Vehicle Manufacturing
Bremen has long been at the forefront of Mercedes-Benz’s EV production efforts. Back in 2019, the plant integrated the Mercedes-Benz EQC into large-scale series production, marking the brand’s first fully electric vehicle built at scale.
Since then, the facility has expanded to cover the full spectrum of electrified drivetrains, including plug-in hybrids and fully electric models. With the addition of the electric GLC, Bremen now produces its third all-electric series vehicle, reinforcing its role as a centre of excellence for core-segment models.
Advanced Powertrain and 800V Architecture
A key highlight of the electric GLC is its cutting-edge powertrain, developed through a tightly integrated production network across Europe. Battery systems are supplied by Mercedes-Benz Accumotive in Kamenz, featuring a new-generation 800-volt architecture designed to significantly reduce charging times.
Under optimal conditions, the system can add up to 305 km of range in just 10 minutes. Total WLTP range for the Mercedes-Benz GLC 400 4MATIC EQ Technology reaches up to 715 kilometres, positioning it among the longest-range electric SUVs in its class.
Electric drive units are produced at the Sebeș facility in Romania, while the Mercedes-Benz Hamburg Plant supplies electric axles and other critical components. This cross-border production ecosystem ensures scalability and efficiency while supporting the brand’s electrification goals.
Strong Demand Signals a Breakout EV
The rapid production ramp-up reflects more than just operational readiness—it underscores strong global demand. The electric GLC is not only a successor to a highly popular SUV but also a key player in Mercedes-Benz’s largest-ever product offensive.
With its blend of long range, fast-charging capability, and premium positioning, the model is poised to compete directly with top-tier electric SUVs entering the market in 2026 and beyond.
Bremen’s Legacy Continues
The Bremen plant’s contribution extends beyond production numbers. With more than 10 million vehicles built and a workforce exceeding 10,000 employees, the site represents a critical pillar of Mercedes-Benz’s industrial footprint.
As the electric GLC rolls off the production line in increasing volumes, Bremen once again demonstrates its adaptability and importance in shaping the future of mobility—this time, in the era of electrification.
