BMW iX3 40 Arrives as Entry-Level Neue Klasse EV with Impressive Range and Fast Charging

BMW has expanded its next-generation electric lineup with the introduction of the BMW iX3 40, a new rear-wheel-drive variant of its Neue Klasse Sports Activity Vehicle.

Positioned as the entry-level model alongside the iX3 50 xDrive, the iX3 40 combines advanced EV technology, strong performance, and competitive pricing ahead of its UK launch in summer 2026.

Starting from £53,250 (OTR), the new model aims to make BMW’s latest electric innovations more accessible without compromising on capability.

Efficient Performance with Gen6 eDrive Technology

At the heart of the BMW iX3 40 is the brand’s sixth-generation (Gen6) eDrive system, designed specifically for the Neue Klasse platform. The setup features an electrically excited synchronous motor (EESM) mounted on the rear axle, delivering 320 hp and 500 Nm of torque to the rear wheels.

This configuration enables the iX3 40 to accelerate from 0 to 62 mph in 5.9 seconds, while top speed is capped at 124 mph. The focus on rear-wheel drive also enhances driving dynamics, staying true to BMW’s performance-oriented DNA.

Up to 395 Miles of Range and Ultra-Fast Charging

One of the standout features of the iX3 40 is its impressive range and charging capability. The model is equipped with an 82.6 kWh usable battery, utilizing advanced cylindrical lithium-ion cells with 20% higher energy density compared to the previous generation.

Thanks to its 800V architecture, the iX3 40 supports DC fast charging at up to 300 kW. This allows drivers to add up to 186 miles of range in just 10 minutes, while a 10–80% charge can be completed in approximately 21 minutes.

For home or public AC charging, the vehicle supports up to 11 kW as standard, with an optional 22 kW upgrade available. Notably, the iX3 40 also introduces bidirectional charging capabilities, enabling energy sharing between the vehicle and external devices or grids.

Neue Klasse Design Inside and Out

The BMW iX3 40 adopts the clean and modern Neue Klasse design language, characterized by minimalist surfaces, precise lines, and a reimagined kidney grille with a distinctive light signature.

Inside, the cabin is defined by the new BMW Panoramic iDrive system powered by BMW Operating System X. The layout emphasizes driver focus while delivering a highly digital and intuitive user experience.

Standard equipment mirrors that of the higher-spec iX3 50 xDrive, ensuring that even the entry-level variant offers a premium feature set.

Smarter Voice Control with Amazon Alexa+ Integration

BMW continues to push in-car AI capabilities with an upgraded Intelligent Personal Assistant, now enhanced by Amazon Alexa+ integration.

Built on large language model (LLM) technology, the system enables more natural, conversational voice interactions. Drivers can control vehicle functions, access cloud-based services, manage media, and retrieve information seamlessly through voice commands.

The integration also allows connection to Amazon accounts, expanding functionality beyond traditional in-car systems. Availability will roll out gradually, starting in Germany.

Next-Level Driving Dynamics and Software Power

The iX3 40 introduces a new electronics and software architecture powered by four high-performance “superbrains,” delivering over 20 times the processing power of previous BMW systems.

A key highlight is the “Heart of Joy” control unit, paired with BMW Dynamic Performance Control software. This system reacts up to ten times faster than earlier setups, improving agility, stability, and overall driving precision.
Additionally, BMW debuts its Soft Stop function, which ensures smooth, silent braking to a complete halt—marking one of the most refined stopping experiences ever offered by the brand.

Pricing and Availability

The BMW iX3 40 will arrive in the UK market in summer 2026, with pricing starting at £53,250 (OTR). As a more affordable entry point into the Neue Klasse range, it brings cutting-edge EV technology, strong range, and premium features to a wider audience.
