Berlin public transport to gain 270 more Solaris Urbino 18 articulated electric buses

Berliner Verkehrsbetriebe (BVG) has placed another order for articulated electric Solaris buses under an existing framework agreement.

Following the delivery of the first batch of 50 Solaris Urbino 18 electric buses, the Berlin public transport operator has now ordered an additional 270 vehicles of the same length.

The framework agreement provides for a flexible and demand-oriented maximum quantity  of up to 700 electric articulated buses over a period of 8 years.

“Fleet electrification and infrastructure modernization are key challenges faced by public transport operators across Europe today. BVG is tackling them in an exemplary way, consistently investing in the best zero-emission solutions available on the market. Being awarded another – and record-breaking – order by BVG is a strong sign of our successful and long-standing partnership,” said Christian Goll, Managing Director of Solaris Deutschland GmbH.

The buses will be equipped Solaris High Energy batteries. Charging will be possible both via a standard plug-in socket and a pantograph.

Featuring a new driveline architecture and the latest battery technologies, the Urbino 18 electric bus guarantees all-day operability and amazing efficiency.

The Urbino 18 is equipped with a 240 kW asynchronous motor and the latest generation Solaris High Energy batteries, boasting a high energy density, which, in turn, means a longer range while maintaining a low battery weight.

Using the maximum number of batteries, with a total capacity of over 800 kWh, allows the bus to achieve a driving range of a staggering 600 km of zero-emission travel (based on energy consumption in e-SORT 2 tests).
