2015 BMW i8 Recalled for Stability Control Problem

BMW of North America is recalling certain model year 2015 i8 vehicles that can experience braking and stability problems.

The affected BMW i8 vehicles were produced between May 29, 2015, and June 5, 2015.

Improperly drilled holes within the Dynamic Stability Control (DSC) hydraulic unit may restrict one or more pistons impairing the DSC functions. This problem could impact the DSC’s control over the vehicle’s braking.

BMW is set to notify owners, with the company’s dealers inspecting the DSC hydraulic unit. If required, the unit will be replaced, obviously free of charge.

BMW says the recall should begin February 10, 2016, when dealers will replace the dynamic stability control hydraulic unit, if needed.

If you own one of the affected models, you can contact the carmaker at 1-800-525-7417. You can also reach out to the NHTSA’s Vehicle Safety Hotline at 1-888-327-4236 (TTY 1-800-424-9153).

BMW previously recalled 223 units the model year 2014 i8 for a potential fuel leak.
