Nissan USA will begin taking reservations Tuesday (April 20) for its new LEAF electric car and is giving priority to people who have signed up for info about the car at its Web site.
The Franklin-based automaker says that more than 115,000 people have signed up for FEAL information on NissanUSA.com. Potential buyers can still get priority if they register by the end of the day on Monday. Reservations will open to the general public on May 15.
On Tuesday afternoon, Nissan will send out e-mails with reservation instructions to potential buyers. The e-mails include a link to start the reservation process. Nissan will ask for a refundable $99 deposit with each reservation, and there is a limit of one reservation per family.
People completing a reservation get a confirmation number. Consumers who reserve a Nissan LEAF will receive confirmation numbers. Nissan will provide individual updates for their reservations by June 30. Reservations are limited to one per household. Deliveries of the Leaf are set to begin in December.
The LEAF will have a suggested retail price of $32,780. Including the $7,500 federal tax credit for which the Nissan LEAF will be fully eligible, the consumer’s after-tax net value of the vehicle will be $25,280.
