Polestar 4 SUV Confirmed with More Practical Design and Up to 391 Miles of Range

Polestar is expanding its growing electric vehicle lineup with the introduction of the Polestar 4 SUV, a more practical sibling to the existing Polestar 4 coupé.

The Swedish EV brand has confirmed that sales will begin on September 2 across most global markets, giving customers a new option that combines the performance and styling of the Polestar 4 with greater everyday usability.

Designed to appeal to buyers looking for additional cargo space and improved practicality, the new Polestar 4 SUV retains the distinctive design language of the coupé while introducing several key functional upgrades. Most notably, it features a conventional rear window, replacing the camera-only rear visibility system used on the standard Polestar 4.

Polestar has released an initial teaser image highlighting the SUV’s C-pillar design and panoramic glass roof, with full specifications, pricing, and additional details expected closer to its official debut.

More Practical Without Sacrificing Performance

The Polestar 4 SUV builds on the strengths of the Polestar 4 coupé by offering increased versatility while maintaining the brand’s emphasis on performance, sustainability, and Scandinavian design.

“Our customers have embraced the Polestar 4 for its distinctive design, performance, and practicality,” said Polestar CEO Michael Lohscheller. “With the Polestar 4 SUV, we’re expanding that appeal by delivering even greater flexibility without compromising the character that defines the Polestar 4.”

Both the Polestar 4 SUV and the updated Polestar 4 coupé benefit from revised chassis tuning aimed at delivering sharper driving dynamics.

The SUV rides on Polestar’s proven 400-volt architecture and will be available in two powertrain configurations:

– Long Range Rear-Wheel Drive with up to 391 miles (630 km) WLTP driving range.
– Dual Motor All-Wheel Drive producing up to 544 horsepower (400 kW) for enhanced performance.

Built in South Korea for Global Markets

Production of the Polestar 4 SUV will take place at the company’s manufacturing facility in Busan, South Korea. The model will be available to order in the majority of Polestar’s global markets when sales open on September 2.

While Polestar had previously indicated that the new SUV would eventually reach the United States, that plan now appears unlikely. The automaker, owned by China’s Geely Group, recently lost authorization to sell 2027 model-year electric vehicles in the U.S. after the Department of Commerce denied approval under the Connected Vehicle Rule, which targets vehicles incorporating certain Chinese-connected technologies.

Part of Polestar’s Expanding EV Portfolio

The Polestar 4 SUV is one of several new electric vehicles planned as part of the company’s broader product offensive. Alongside the recently introduced Polestar 5 electric grand tourer, the brand is also preparing the next-generation Polestar 2 sedan and the all-new Polestar 7 crossover.

Pricing for the Polestar 4 SUV has not yet been announced and is expected to be revealed closer to the model’s official launch. With its blend of extended driving range, practical design, and performance-focused engineering, the new SUV is set to broaden the appeal of the Polestar 4 lineup in markets around the world.
