BMW iX3 Long-Wheelbase Will Come with 919 km CLTC Range and Neue Klasse Technology

BMW has unveiled official energy consumption figures for the new iX3 Long-Wheelbase, confirming an impressive 919 km (571 miles) CLTC driving range and an energy consumption rating of just 13.6 kWh/100 km.

The specifications were published by China’s Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT), highlighting the significant advancements delivered by BMW’s next-generation Neue Klasse electric vehicle platform.

The new iX3 Long-Wheelbase marks an important step in BMW’s EV strategy, introducing an 800V electrical architecture, faster charging capabilities, improved efficiency, and a host of AI-powered technologies developed specifically for the Chinese market.

Neue Klasse Platform Brings Major Efficiency Gains

At the heart of the new iX3 is BMW’s latest Neue Klasse electric drivetrain, which combines an 800V high-voltage system with large cylindrical battery cells and Cell-to-Pack (CTP) battery technology.

According to BMW, the new architecture delivers significant improvements over the outgoing model, including:

– 20% higher battery energy density
– 30% longer driving range
– 30% faster charging efficiency

The dual-motor electric powertrain produces a combined 351 kW (477 hp), while ultra-fast DC charging can replenish approximately 400 km (249 miles) of driving range in just 10 minutes under optimal conditions.

BMW has also equipped the SUV with its new Driving Control Super Brain, enabling millisecond-level coordination between the powertrain and chassis to improve driving dynamics and responsiveness.

New Exterior Designed for the Chinese Market

The iX3 Long-Wheelbase adopts BMW’s fresh Neue Klasse design language while incorporating several market-specific styling elements.

The front end features a distinctive 3D illuminated kidney grille paired with integrated lighting that creates a digital interpretation of BMW’s signature “Angel Eyes.”

Along the sides, BMW replaces its traditional Hofmeister kink with a China-exclusive “Mirror-Light Corner” design element. Semi-hidden electric door handles support both powered and manual operation through a triple-redundancy safety mechanism.

The SUV measures:

– Length: 4,885 mm
– Width: 1,895 mm
– Height: 1,635 mm
– Wheelbase: 3,005 mm

At the rear, sculpted 3D Feather taillights and an aerodynamic spoiler complete the modern appearance. Buyers will be able to choose from nine exterior paint colours, including Mineral White, Polar Day Grey and Flame Red.

High-Tech Cabin with AI Integration

Inside, the new iX3 receives one of BMW’s most advanced digital interiors to date.

The centrepiece is the latest BMW Panoramic iDrive system, combining the new Panoramic Vision Bridge with a 3D Head-Up Display. Using ultra-short-throw projection technology, the system projects a panoramic 4K display measuring nearly 40 inches across the lower portion of the windshield.

A 17.9-inch high-definition central touchscreen, angled 17.5 degrees toward the driver, handles infotainment duties.

The software has been heavily localised for China, offering support for both Huawei HiCar and Apple CarPlay. Voice assistant capabilities are powered by Alibaba’s large language model alongside DeepSeek’s AI reasoning technology, providing more natural voice interactions and smarter vehicle functions.

AI-Assisted Driving and Improved Comfort

BMW developed the intelligent driving system in partnership with Momenta, using end-to-end AI models trained specifically for Chinese traffic conditions.

The system supports both urban and highway driving with features including adaptive cruise control and advanced hazard avoidance.

Passenger comfort has also received considerable attention. The front passenger seat now includes an electrically adjustable leg rest, while the rear seats have been redesigned with thicker cushioning and longer seat bases for improved long-distance comfort. A panoramic glass roof enhances the sense of space inside the cabin.

Practicality has also improved, with the combined front and rear luggage compartments offering up to 1,900 litres of maximum cargo capacity.

Launch Expected Later This Year

BMW is expected to begin pre-sales of the iX3 Long-Wheelbase at the Chengdu Auto Show, with customer deliveries scheduled to start during the fourth quarter of this year.

With its exceptionally long CLTC driving range, next-generation battery technology, rapid charging capability and AI-focused interior, the new iX3 Long-Wheelbase demonstrates how BMW’s Neue Klasse platform is set to redefine the brand’s electric vehicle lineup, particularly in the highly competitive Chinese EV market.
